Day 5

Not the best of sleeps for me or the Goddess. A combination of congestion and sunburn made for a fitful night. On top of that, the body reacted to the vitamin C overdose. It's not widely understood  that too much vitamin C can have strange effects: dizziness, lack of co-ordination, slurred speech, to name a few.

So, your reporter is feeling slightly less than100% but is nevertheless ready to head out for the deity's morning offering, albeit an hour later than normal.

Breakfast over, we decided that discretion is the better part of valour and so we'll forgo the beach for today and stay in the shade of our villa, drink lots of water and repair ourselves. This may make for some dull reportage but we'll see how it goes.

I've been surprised to find that supplies are not as expensive as I expected them to be. The Goddess dispatched me to the pharmacy to get some serious aftersun. I picked up the blue ice stuff with lidocaine for €4, $5.50. The Goddess tells me that's significantly cheaper than we'd pay at home. Of course, we shouldn't have needed it had we had our sensible heads on yesterday. Oh, well... (yet again).

Finally, I figured out how to connect my iPod to the TV here, so we now have music and if you'll excuse me, I think it's time to self-medicate again.

Tonight's repast is at Chez les Amants. It's a hot and steamy kind of place, appropriately enough, although we did spend today trying not to hurt each other.Monsieur et Madame dined on Porc Roti au Paprika, with a tomato and olive accompaniment and diced roasted potatoes. I had a small Leffe Radiuse before hand and small it has to be. At 8.2%, I can't risk the few brain cells I have left on too many of those. Our wine with dinner was a robust Cahors and damn tasty it was too.

After dinner, watched Page Eight, a new political drama from David Hare with Bill Nighy and Rachel Weisz. It makes a nice change of pace after what have been a pretty sensory few days. Talking of which, tomorrow will be a beach day but for now, the Goddess beckons.
