Dec 30: St. Lucia
I had Dan drop me off at the beach early for a walk into town, I had hoped to find some saltfish but I should have known that everything would be closed on a Sunday morning. The Petit Peak restaurant was open so I stopped in there for coffee and a breakfast sandwich and just enjoyed the view of the waterfront.

I asked around the village if anyone had seen my friend Boomer, someone said they thought he was leading a hike up Petit Piton, so I asked that if they say him to let him know I would be at the beach by the Hummingbird. I took a walk around town and ran into Dan and Em at the customs office, then headed over to the supermarket to pick up some water for the day and tonic water for mojitos back at the boat. The beach there is nice, the sand is a little course but there wasn’t any swell running so the swimming was nice. There weren’t many people at the beach just some local familys and I was able to enjoy some quiet time and relaxation. There are kids that hang out there, trying to make some money from the tourist by diving for coins thrown into the water, I told them wasn’t going to throw any money but I would give $10EC to the first one that found Boomer and brought him back; that sent them all scattering in different directions.

I spent my day between swimming, catching some rays, and dropping into the Hummingbird for a drink and to use the restroom. There is a little rum shack next to the Hummingbird where the beers are cheap, the spiced rum strong and they have saltfish and bakes so I also made a few stops there. I really enjoyed my time there, maximum chill as they say and decided I will spend some time in Soufriere this year at some point. We were scheduled to leave for Marigot in the late afternoon so around 1:00 I walked over to Archies for lunch of fish in Creole sauce. After leaving Archies, I headed for St. Lucia Debs shop to pick up a picture made from dried banana leaves as a gift for Kim; I came across a woman just about to put some skewers of beef kidneys on her grill, so I placed an order for some to bring back to the boat. As I was walking Rodger and Alex stopped to say good-bye, they were in a taxi going to the airport for their flight home; no sooner after they drive off I ran into Boomer who had just returned from the Piton hike. Small world that it is, the people he guided were from around Buffalo, and one of them hangs out at the little country bar near my house and thinks he may know my son Nick. Well now we all had to go have a beer, and they told me about their hike. By the time my kidneys were done the shop had closed so it was off to the boat, a little behind time. Boomer walked me as far as the end of the village and his daughters, Twilight and Twinkle, joined us. I went back over the coast road and untied the stern line from the coconut tree we were hooked up to as Em came in with the dingy to get me. It is just a short distance to Marigot, so we left the sun canopy up and sailed under jib alone.

In Margot we tied up to the dock at Chateau Mygo as usual and some of the crew went off to the Moorings base for showers. We were just in time for their two for one happy hour, so it was gin and tonics along with some wifi. For dinner we decided to split four large pizzas, an assortment from the variety they have. The pizzas were good and really hit the spot, again it is the thin crust type but that gives them a nice crunch. After some drinks at the bar, we finished up the night in our usual way with some fine aged rum in the cockpit.
