Quick question. I have never stayed at either the La terasse or La Plague...and to be honest do not know much about either, other than the general location from pics on internet and also seeing both as we drive by,,but me doing all of the driving when on island, I do miss things as I am watching traffic, lol We are thinking of extending our vacation 5 days longer than rest of our group,,and have found a one bedroom at La Terasse for when we need it thru airbnb. 5 nights,,approx 1000.00 u.s. Has this place been restored since Irma? From pics of pool area it looks like the planes are literally "right" there. Are the 2 places across the Maho street from each other, La Terasse being on the casino side? Man, I should pay attention more, lol. Also,,has anyone stayed there recently. I am not even sure if that is a good price. We would have to pay a little extra to Westjet to have our return flight date changed, but it would be worth it to extend our vacay. Thanks in advance for your views. Meg

I have had two friends stay at LT lately and neither was thrilled but at the same time, they werenโt totally upset with the place either. Both felt it was noisier than staying across the street at LaPlage, which btw, is oceanfront as opposed to LaTerrasse which is basically more airport-front though it does have beautiful pool views, too. I personally have only stayed at LP once for two weeks and while we enjoyed being able to walk to a lot of venues we still used the car and drove to beaches most days.
Did you check the RI owners rental site for LaPlage? You might be able to find something there more to your liking.and if you can work out the extra days, I say go for it! You only live once.......๐๐

I wish I could remember the website but I will check later to see if I can find it among my vacation info. You could probably google it quicker though. We did a rental of a week through an owner and later in the week we found the same unit for the following week and less expensive than renting through the owner so we were very happy to do two weeks in the same unit.

jAgain, my thanks,,,I did try googling,,,jeff bergers site, etc., but didnt seem to find anything. It is only 5 nights (feb 4-Feb 9.....found out it will cost 220 per person more to fly home on the 9th via westjet rather than original booking departure date of Feb 4...but..THe flights have gone up considerably since we book a direct round trip a few months ago, so that makes sense. I cant see that La Terrese could be too bad,,but as you say, not on oceanfront, wonder if they allow guests from Royal Islander (La Plague and La terasse ) to go between resorts at all? Lots to consider, so still looking. This ttol is a great thing for gathering info from SXM travellers, Love it. We are booked Jan 28-Feb 4 at Sol Y Mar above greenhouse with our friends (love the place and location), but so tempting to add the additional time for hubby and I. We stayed at the old Caranvansarai back in 2005, and liked the location. I did notice some spots for rent at the Alegria, but am hesitant there, based on all the comments, etc. lol

I would avoid Alegria like the plague. I assume whatever is available there is in the privately owned building, as I have no idea when what will be called, I think, The Morgan, is going to open. Just bad vibes, all the way round there.

Helen and i, just stayed at La Teresse last week. 3rd floor room #3378. the resort is in great shape. the Hot tub was not working in the pool area but other than that everything else was in tip top shape. pool bar is open from 12 -7, happy hour (2 for 1) from 4-5 Jesus & Miriam will take care of you. They have their own parking garage under the complex for $5 a day. rooms are clean, water pressure is great. And the convenience of walking to shops and restaurants is awesome. We have stayed in there 10+ times over the years, and although it is not right on the beach we prefer it over La Plage. We have many times walked across the street and hung out on the La Plage pool area, only once were we told it was for La Plage guests only and that was 5-6 years ago. The beach itself, like almost all beaches on the island are open to anyone. IMO $200 a night is a fare price.
Hope this helps,
MrTim

Hello Mr. Tim Yes, it does help....we are not real fussy,,,there is lots to do in that area, so walking around is not a problem for us. We may just rent a car for a day at a time if needed. But after a full week with 3 other couples just prior to us going there, we should be ready to relax more. I believe the room I made a deposit on (which is refundable) is on second floor, I still have to quiz the owner. It was thru Air bnb. I was able to find the Royal Islander site for rentals from owners, thanks to Bahston, and they said they have nothing available for that time frame. Most negative comments/reviews is that you have to pay for parking and that the wifi doesn't work most of the time and is expensive. I usually buy my own plan so my phone works...not a big issue for me. Thanks for your time. Meg

Stayed at La Terrasse last summer for a month (privately owned unit). Unit was fine and we enjoyed the pool (much quieter and less busy than La Plage pool) and the area (easy walk to many restaurants). No problem with noise--ever. Staying again this coming summer.

were you as a guest allowed to use the beach which appears to me to be in front of La Plague? Can I ask, did you book the privately owned unit thru vrbo, or air bnb? I am always so afraid of scams, lol Also, the price quoted on Air bnb by this host stated the totals with (CAD) behind amount?? I would think it would not be in Canadian dollars??? I have sent a message to host, but no response yet.
Fingers crossed all is good. I think by any comments on here, the resort will be just fine, Like I said, we kinda know the area,,,we don't need anything fancy,,,just love the island and wanted to extend our vacay.
Thanks for your comments. Meg

Short & sweet reply from a long time RI La Plage owner. 1) I would stay in any La Plage unit over the La Terresse. The view and amenities as well as feeling apart of the resort would make a big difference to me. As another OP suggested, hit up Richard March at RI owners website for rental information. He is honest & trustworthy....and he is Canadian. 2) La Terresse can use the beach....if there is enough sand to make a usable beach area. The sand comes & goes which means that La Terresse owners may be limited to their pool area or traveling to Mullett. Or walking down the street to Maho beach at the end of the runway.

nothing for nothing...but usually when there is no beach at LaPlage...there also isn't one at the runway. Either they both are all sand...or all rocks. I have literally many times see this beach go from all sand to all rocks within a two day period...and back again. You never know what will be at this beach. As for pool use between LaPlage and La Terrace. Usually if security notices you are not staying at LaPlage, or you aren't a guest of someone who is staying there, you will be asked to leave. This has been the norm for the entire time LaTerrace has been built.

Hi there. I did email the resort owners website,,,not sure if it was Richard M who the email got directed to. However, there were no units avail for the short stay that we needed. We will have already been on the island for a week with 3 other couples, so this accomodation needed is just for the two of us for 5 days. I can imagine the view would be better from LaPlague, as it is closer to water. However,,we will make the best of it. The cost was right, and we were able to change our return flights. We really enjoy watching the planes, so we should see a lot from La Terasse. I have contacted a few people who have stayed there recently and they told me not to worry about negative reviews. Most of our time will be at the pool or walking about, or probably renting a small car to head to some beaches. Some said I could walk to Mullet? I think that is just a wee bit too far for us...lol Not sure what amenities you were referring to, but guess I will find out in February. Any time on the island is good with me. I just like to ask questions, research, and know what I am getting into, so I don't encounter many surprises. I probably am more nervous from renting thru air bnb than anything else. Hopefully the host is honest, etc. Again, thank s to all of you for your input.

I've stayed at both and both were noisy AF! The all inclusive next door at Sonesta has loud microphones and speakers ALL DAY LONG from their pool area that bounces off the buildings and invades La Plage. Then at night the nightclub (We?) is so freaking LOUD! at La Terrasse. Add to that we had garden room (LP) so no view unless we attempted to peak through the oleander could we see the water. The pool was busy as well. IMO the pool and view at LT was much nicer. Also quiet during the day. Hubby loved the view of the airport and Maho/Sea. Depending upon what unit at LT it could be a bit quieter and away from We! This is the LT pool and view (if I ever get my act together I will post the view from LP)

Hey, Nice pics, thanks for sharing. I honestly am trying to picture it....We have been to sxm several times, but the closest we stayed in this area was the old C. I have even been to the maho market, etc. Weird how when I go to book something, I just cannot picture the set up of the two. Oh well,,,I am booked. We are night hawks, so a bar or club won't bother us. Ha, Ha, I can sleep thru anything. I am looking forward to the great view of planes. We absolutely love SXM,,,so I am pretty sure we will be fine. Probably wouldnt have been our first choice for booking a place for an entire week, when we bring newbies to the island,,,but the newbies are heading home on Feb 4, and we are now moving to La Terrase when they leave and get to enjoy another 5 nights on the island.
I truly appreciate your input,,,for that matter everyone's input. It is interesting how others view places. Gives us a much better perspective. Looking forward to finally getting to Hole in the Wall to check out the music. And also trying out Jax steakhouse, lol. Sun, music, food and relax time all good for us. Oh and maybe a few "beverages" . I have found out we will be staying in unit 1185. Happy Travels

LT is directly across from the C. Here is a plane pic from the garden balcony and a view of the road...Maho Market right underneath

Yes.....you have access to the beach but you are not allowed to use the La Plage pool area. Didn't matter to me as I preferred the pool at La Terrasse. You also have access to the restaurant at La Plage which is much improved. The unit I rented I originally found on VRBO but in emailing the owner, I found out they were on the island at the time. I was able to view the unit and then dealt directly with the owner when renting. Staying in the same unit this coming summer.

Helen and i, just stayed at La Teresse last week. 3rd floor room #3378.... we'll be staying in the same unit (again) in a couple of weeks...this will be our first return to the island since Irma...even though we don't really go to any of the restaurants/bars/places in Maho (although we look forward to checking out Hole in the Wall this trip), we like staying there for the ambiance...we also don't go to pools when on islands, so pools are a non-issue....and since we always have a car, and prefer to visit a variety of beaches, not being directly on the beach is also not that important....issues with noise have never even crossed our minds during ours stays at LT
