I have a pay subscription, so was able to access it just now. I basically just read the whole paper online.

Interesting. Still not back up online. I wonder if they are trying to go to only a pay service??

Perhaps they are still deciding what they are going to do. You might want to send them an email and say you want the online version to continue. Of course I'm not sure what address to send it to. Possibly sales@thedailyherald.sx

I am able to read the full version as I have a paid subscription. I just now sent them an email, asking if the free online version will resume or not. JD posted a ink to their facebook page the other day, for those that have Facebook. Personally, that is not nearly the same thing as even what they had before, so I hope they resume the prior form of the free online version. I will let folks here know if/when I hear back from them.

Several times in the last week there has been a large ad in the print copy stating that you can get a 3-month subscription either online or delivered for just $55 US.

I am betting they are going to subscriber paid only without a free version.

I think there have been ads for the online version in the paper for quite some time. I have had my subscription for quite some time, several years..

I don't pay that much. I have told them in the past they would get a lot more paid subscribers if they charged less.

Way less that what I pay for home delivery of the Dayton Daily News here are home.

I pay more than that for home delivery of my home paper also, but I was talking about internet version only.

What got my attention was the current ad has a large 'NEW' right above the paragraph that explains the pricing.

I'm sure it is but for an online version it's up there. We quit our local paper delivery when it got to expensive. Usually filled with advertising and little news.

Actually, the LACK of advertising is what is driving up the price of print editions. Online subscription here is $90 for 1 year. Home delivery (which comes with online access) is over $40/mo or over $500/year. Some people still like to hold a newspaper or a book in their hands.

The $55 for 3 month price for the Daily Herald also included home delivery, assuming one is on the island. Based on this equalling $220 for a year of digital and home (SXM) delivery, it is a pretty decent deal IMHO.

I just heard back from the subscription department. They said they didn't know how long it would be until the website was back up. But it seems like it will hopefully be coming back, from what he said, as otherwise he would have said it is definitely NOT coming back. He said to look at Facebook for the time being.

There never was a WHOLE free edition, just assorted articles which were available online. Apparently they are going to bring that back in some form, but the email I got did not know when.

You may have to clear your history/cookies or use the new link provided earlier in this thread as the old link I had did not work.

Try deleting your old link and then using the new one Bluesfan posted. Works fine for me. If you did not clear your history and cookies, try that or try it again.

When I opened that link I get a wide vertical white blank bar through the middle of page with a padlock. When I tap on padlock it asked me to sign in.
