The Admiral and I did something completely different for our 25th wedding anniversary.
Instead of a vacation on a boat like we usually do, we went to Vegas for a week.
It was a wonderful and tiring trip.
There is so much to do that you get sucked into doing too much.
Bring your walking shoes... everything is soooooo farrrr. Heck, it took us 10-15 minutes to hike to the valet desk from our hotel room just to get to our car!

Highlights for the trip were:

Dinners at Nobu (at Caesars) and the Eiffel Tower Restaurant. At Nobu we got the chef's 7 course sampler meal, and it was the best meal we've had in our life. The Eiffel Tower restaurant was a close second. Our surprising meals of the week were the $12 crepe we shared at a pastry shop in The Bellagio, and the Fix restaurant at the Bellagio.

Staying at the Bellagio. Beautiful, elegant.

Fountain view room: we never got tired of watching the fountain.

Aquarium at Mandalay Bay (jelly fish exhibit shown)

Helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon

Hike into the mountains south of Red Rocks at First Creek Canyon (behind the burro).

We can't wait to go back. There was soooo muuuuuch we didn't get to do.

We saw 4 shows - Defending the Caveman, Terry Fader, Blue Man Group, and La Reve. All highly recommended.

La Reve was simply spectacular. By far the most amazing show that I've ever seen.

Sounds like a great time Walt. Vegas will definitely wear you out. Everything looks like a short walk away when it is actually miles away!
I want to do the helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. The feds didn't close the skies over it?

It must be time to race again. My wounds have started to heal.

They Barrycaded the main entrances of the National Parks, but I noticed a lot of civil disobedience in terms of people slipping into the parks at more obscure and out-of-the-way locations... such as Red Rocks NP. I can neither confirm or deny my participation in such nefarious activities!

Our helicopter landed in the Indian Reservation on the west side of the canyon (Sundance Helicopter Tours). Sundance has a deal with the Indians apparently. So since we were not going into a US NP our tour didn't get cancelled.

Great shots! They would have had to pry my butt out of the chair at checkout time if I had that fountain as my view.

My wife and I saw Defending the Caveman back in the mid-90s and I am still laughing! I do not think I have ever laughed harder in my life. Rob Becker was so funny.

Pretty radical choice... Blue Water? No honey I think this year we will do the desert.

I'm not a Vegas lover, but I have to say that going there a few years ago was totally worth it for me because we also did a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. Just jaw-droppingly amazing. For someone who doesn't have much time to do justice to the canyon, it's a great way to sample it. (And we're going back for a quick weekend trip in a few weeks for a concert -- Vegas is well-priced enough to make that sort of trip do-able.)

We're not big gamblers, don't drink to excess (ok, well, very often), and don't go for the really "explicit" shows. This is what Vegas is known for, of course, but there's an astounding array of things to do without getting liquored up and going to a burlesque show.
