I have a three day training course in Red Hook next month. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to anchor a 48ft catamaran near red hook or is there an alternative. It has been a while since I was last there and i seem to remember it can be rolly due to ferries. Is this still the case? Would I be better getting a slip in AYH and what would be the cost. Many thanks for any info.

Red Hook is full of private moorings and the only areas to anchor would be closer to the entrance of the anchorage where the swells from the ferries will knock you silly if your not used to it.
AYH would be your best bet or maybe your instructor has or knows someone who will rent you a mooring, otherwise grab a NP mooring outside Cruz Bay and commute to Red Hook by ferry.

get a slip, call AYH and reserve in advance, November should be about $1.50-$2.00 a foot plus water and electricity

that's one hell of a dinghy ride. My son would take guests from Saga Haven to Christmas Cove (Capt. Nautica), but they were 14' with a 40hp.
