This was posted on SXM Talks. Looks like some non residents are getting vaccines in St Maarten when they haven't vaccinated all the residents yet. How selfish of people.

"Message to non residents getting their COVID vaccinations on St. Maarten.
We are getting reports from tourists getting COVID vaccinations on St. Maarten. Even posting it on Facebook without any shame or further reflection that they are actually taking away vaccinations from the local population as there are only a limited number of vaccinations allocated for St. Maarten by the Dutch Government, who themselves are dealing with vaccine shortages.
While we appreciate each and everyone coming to St. Maarten, we do want implore that you get your vaccinations where you are accounted for which is your country of permanent residency. Your Government has one for you so please refrain from getting yours on St. Maarten as you are literally taking it away from the local population.
We thank you for your consideration and cooperation as we mitigate this COVID pandemic exit together!
Thank you."
I saw one post on Facebook where this couple actually put a picture of themselves holding their vaccination card. Not right.

I agree - selfish. I wonder how the residents feel about this.

They felt it was justified as they owned there (not clear if it was timeshare or actual real estate), and they spend six months on the island. I completely disagree, but that was their justification.

Even those that rent for a few months. The residents are pissed!

Don't blame them. Feel the same about people going to a different state here in the US to get theirs. Poster adults for selfishness and privilege.

I completely agree. We actually even hesitated to go to a county adjacent to us, but the hospital group that was operating the site has facilities in 40 NC counties, and urged everyone who wanted to get a vaccination to register at any of their mass vaccination sites. I'm glad we did that, as our doctor's office, while an approved site, hasn't been allocated any vaccines for the past two weeks.

GaKaye, I don't see a problem going to an adjacent County to get yours. If you are over 65, and/or fit into other risk groups, you need to protect yourselves.

Each state and vaccination site has its own requirements and policies to follow. If they allow county to count then do so. If not, then stay in own county. For that matter state too.

And we did, once it was explained to us. I originally thought that the vaccine distribution was based on county population statistics, so I didn't want to take a vaccine from a county resident. Once the hospital made their protocols clear, we went to the adjacent county to get ours; it was available to us about two weeks before it was available to us in our own county.

Good Deal !! My Wife and I received our second Pfizer vaccine yesterday. No side effects other than very slight tenderness at injection site.

Not sure where this thread is going but the last few posts have nothing to do with it’s heading.
Seems to be happening a lot lately.
Most of us use this forum to gain info on what is going on in SXM but seems lately there are those who always hijack the post to talk about their personal experiences in the US.
They should be reminded there is a different forum on this website for those discussions.

Clifftops--yes, thread drift does happen. Yes, people should confine their general comments regarding Covid and their experience with getting a shot to People Talk.

Regarding the topic of non-fulltime residents getting shots in SXM, I think that is a function of the SXM government's protocols for shots there. As I recall, they are allowing people that are not documented at all to receive the shots. Think someone from Jamaica for instance that has been physically residing on SXM for quite some time, but has no legal status there. That is where this came from, I would think.

And, by the way, do we even know for certain that the OFFICIAL policy does not allow for it? To me, it's likely that it might..
