Gallows is a great room with a kitchen and living room and for the price it's hard to beat,it's a 3 minute walk to town.

We've stayed here twice, but the last time was 20 years ago on our honeymoon we stayed in the upper 1 bedroom unit with ocean view. It was a great room for us, very large windows and nice balcony to bring the outside in, quiet. We usually go to Gallows for dinner each trip to enjoy the sunset at the bar and the grounds/gardens and the units are in great condition. Gallows is so convenient to town, it's a really short walk to the Beach Bar and other great restaurants and shops around Wharfside Village. Down from the beautiful pool area there's a tiny beach with a hammock, I proposed to my wife there. There's a swim area and a floating swim platform there as well. The staff should be able to arrange a jeep for you or just walk 2 minutes downhill to St John Car Rental. I would stay there again for sure!

It's been a while since we stayed there, but we still have fond memories of it. Both times, we had ground level units that faced St. Thomas. Since we could walk to town easily, we only rented a car a couple of times.

Its small beach area had some decent snorkeling. The pool is small but refreshing after swimming in the salt water.

I would definitely stay there again.

2 people? More than that is a crowd in most units. We're fans of August visits, no crowds and most everything is open. If you want to hit specific restaurants it's worth calling the week before and making reservations. We missed eating at La Tapa one year in August because they closed mid-week.

Lots of places will have deals in August, almost as good as September.

We honeymooned there too - 37 years ago. Back then, it was just 8 or so single room cabins, plus a small bar run by a guy who was 'working on his first novel'. That's where we learned that Coke cost more than rum by the ounce - strong rum & cokes there! Best of times.

Fl Jim, back then the mix cost more then the Rum and the Back Yard bar and the Captain and Cook's Conch Fritters and bar were the 2 main places besides Mongoose Junction which also was new and Skinny Legs was Red Beards.
