Many years ago nude sunbathing was tolerated on Lido Beach. Haven't been since, planning a trip to the area soon. Does anyone know if nude, topless or thong tanning allowed?
Sarasota County's North Lido Beach used to be a popular nude (clothing optional) beach, but being unclothed is now prohibited at all public beaches in both Manatee and Sarasota counties.
It is rumored that several sandbars and smaller islands around the Intercoastal Waterway sometimes act as an impromptu clothing optional beach by boaters.
Thanks for your response. I think it was in the mid to late 70's, early 80's when total nudity was accepted on north lido beach, it was a beautiful white sand beach within walking distance of the very European style St. Armand's Circle which was an upscale shopping, dining destination. Hard to believe in this uptight day and age such a beach existed... we sure enjoyed it!
Passage key at the mouth of Tampa Bay is the primary island used by naturists. I don't know anything about them but this company takes people there if you don't have a boat. www.grinandbareitcharters.com
