We just got back from 8 wonderful days on Tortola. We did something a little different this time than our usual sailing trip and stayed at Sebastian's Villas. Kevin Campbell picked us up at the airport (and returned us) without a hitch, caught a 3:00 ferry and were all checked in by 4:30. Rented a car from Jerry's for the week and Dale was waiting for us at the ferry with a newer Vitara.
Just some observations in no particular order:
- The villa we stayed in, Azalea, was nice and private overlooking the water. Uschi will be retiring in a week and a new management team, James & Wanda, will be running the show.
- Did Happy Hour at Myett's a couple nights and saw Kapeye and Brian Neal, with most of the usual suspects there.
- Had breakfast at D' Best Cup in Soper's Hole 4 times and it's still the best breakfast on Tortola.
- Had dinner at Fish N' Lime twice and they've really gotten their act together. The place looks great and the food is a lot more unique compared to Jolly Roger.
- The word has really gotten out about Cruzin in Carrot Bay.
- Had dinner and a couple of Happy Hours (Mojitos & Fish Tacos) at the Clubhouse at Frenchman's Cay, and we think it's the best dinner on Tortola.
- Stoutt's Lookout overlooking Cane Garden Bay has really got it going on. Great drinks, great atmosphere and they're starting to serve some food on the weekends.
- Some of the vendors are back at Smugglers, which is nice. We were also sitting there and saw the yacht they're using for Season 2 of “Below Deck” pull in. Their “recon” tenders drove around for awhile until I guess they determined it was safe and then brought their guests into the beach.
- We went to White Bay on Patouche's new Power Cat, that can hold at least 30 people comfortably.
- We drove all over the island at all times of the day, hitting some of the more local bars and never felt any type of threat or hostility. The only bad behavior we saw was from tourists, mostly Americans.
- Overall, we've never seen the island this busy this time of year and have never seen that much boat traffic ever.
