My Spanish Virgin Island experts:

Planning to be in the Culebra area soon and might have to dance with a passing disturbance and 20-30 knots of SE - SSE wind. Where would you hunker down for 24-36 hours?

Ensenada Honda doesn't seem like a good bet with it's long fetch to the SE and deeper bottoms.

Will the reef offer enough protection from the swell at Dakity and Almodovar? No wind shelter here though.

What about Playa Flamenco and Bahia Tortuga? Does surge still get in there with SE driven wind swells? I've always thought of these as day anchorages, but that was under normal E winds and the occasional ground swell.

I would tuck in behind Pirate Cay in Ensenada Honda - I've done that a couple times in similar conditions with no problems. Got a little wet dinghying to Dingy Dock.

Thanks Jim - we ended up riding it out in the NW corner of Flamenco, well off the beach. Protection was great and just a slight roll with 3-4 foot NE swell. Got out of there before the bigger northerly swell arrived.
