We will be in sxm for three weeks in July, staying on both the French and Dutch side. I am hearing about greater than usual amounts of seaweed on the island. Is there a website or app or map that reports on where there are large amounts of each day? Not too worried about SBR but have heard stories about large amounts at GGBC. If we can monitor this as July gets closer, we will change some reservations.

The only thing I've been able to find is the Seaweed Monitoring site. It covers all areas - not just SXM so just zoom in to the area you want to see. If anyone else has a better site please feel free to share. https://sargassummonitoring.com

Thank you! That’s helpful. Will probably call the resorts closer to our trip.

On Facebook you can join a sargassum watch site… people post comments about what they’re seeing on their trips… GCBC… did have seaweed in March for three days….also on FB there are numerous drone videos posted by ChristopheLaVilla… posted in real time… that actually show various beaches… Orient, Galeon, Pinel etc… hope this is helpful….

Thanks. I was hoping that it was only for St Maarten beaches instead of all along the Caribbean.

We've been on the island in Orient Village since last Thursday. it appears that seaweed is all about the wind direction. Until this afternoon the wind has been out of the NNE and Orient Beach has been crystal clear. This morning the wind change to coming directly from the East and we're seeing some seaweed mats in the bay. it's a crap shoot.

Too bad a huge cargo ship can't scoop it up with netting before it comes ashore. I don't know what they would do with it, but if there was some way...........

According to a Ny Times article a week or two ago 13 million tons were in the Great Sargassum Belt in March. That’s a record for March. The Belt stretches from the west coast of Africa to the Gulf of Mexico.

From what I have read it sounds like it is going to be a bad summer all over the Caribbean

5 thousand miles of it all over Caribbean, Florida ,East coast , Mexico about everywhere. But to us it’s not a big problem and a bit silly all the drama and people stressing out over it. It moves around day to day and even if our beach has it we can normally swim in the water without any issues. Otherwise fine another beach. 37 to pick from!

foreversxm you are 100% spot on. Friends of ours just returned and were "soooooooo thankful they missed it by a few days"....We're going in August for 2 weeks. There are 37 beaches. If one has sargassum we will try another and another and then another. No worries at all. If sargassum is all I have to worry about in a day, then I'm doing pretty darn good... 😊😊😊

These guys work so hard to keep the beach clean here at BSV.
A new batch is coming in tonight, but we have had no problem swimming,
since the water is so calm.

We have both been a little under the weather, so thank goodness we have such
a beautiful place to stay put.

Not too many dinners or beaches for pictures

Hope you feel better for your trip home as it is not fun travelling especially if you feel unwell.
