We've usually flown on American airlines for both our arrival and return flights.
Checking end of March flights for 2024 and I don't see any flights leaving MKE connecting in CLT arriving in SXM the same day. Not to mention how expensive all the flights are. Have any of you flown to SXM on Delta with a return on American Airlines? Are there any drawbacks using two different airlines? You may ask why don't we just fly Delta for the arrival and return? Because it's almost $300 cheaper doing it this way.

Thanks for your help.

Not an issue with US and flights to the Islands....We've done it many times. Going to Europe is another story though....

They say they will need proof of return when you depart but we have never been asked...but not an issue if we had

We have done JB down and Delta return...not a fan of AA

There's no problem with flying two different airlines. You just need to make sure that you print out a confirmation of your flight home and take it with you to SXM. Sometimes airlines will ask you for proof of your return flight, if you're not flying back out on the same airline. Not sure what the current rule is, but I think US citizens can only stay on SXM continuously for six months. If you're on the same airline, they can check their records for your return flight. Other than that, the airlines don't care at all whether you are on the same airline or not.

You don’t need to print your return, just show on your phone and they are content. The only time I have ever had to show waS on Delta at JFK and I just showed them my flight info on my phone (home on JetBlue). Never an issue.

Also - I missed the info on this but the last two trips I was able to use the digital boarding pass on my phone to leave the island. Makes life so much easier!!

We have been flying United to SXM via O'Hare from Michigan for a few years now and returning on Delta via SJU. We have never been asked for proof of return although we have a hard copy and our phones if needed. Airfare for some reason has always been much cheaper by booking one way trips, sometimes even on the same airline. Go figure!

No problem at all. I have done this at least the last 3-4 years, except I went AA down and Delta the return. As long as the schedule works and the price is right, no reason not to do this.

Kim--so long as your phone works! i work from the concept that technology NEVER works when you NEED it to. Your mileage may vary.

Knock on wood! Honestly I’d say since Irma I have had zero issues with Verizon, Flow (Chippie) or Wi-Fi on the island. Prior - pretty sketchy!!!

Yeah, well, there's always the first time. I always try to proceed on the 'belt and suspenders' basis.
