My time @ The Pelican was Sat-11/20 thru Sat 11/27---however ----I arrived on the island 11/22 and moved to Port De Palaisance ----the 27th thru the 30th----I love this place----for many reasons. Checked into 14303-----third flr.---fronting the lagoon and the center of my "picture perfect view" was the bridge and yacht club @ Simpson Bay.Yachts--yachts everywhere----small -- large ---MEGA Yachts ---and everything in between----with helicopters--crewed ( scrubbing) with full staff ( serving)--formal dining on the one deck ----sunning on another ---jacuzzi on another-- -WOW---the "international player's" were out in force this Thanksgiving week.Traffic--traffic--traffic everywhere----what a migration of vessels in and out of the lagoon @ each bridge opening---morning & evening.Congestion would start ~ 3:30 in the Simpson Bay area and by bridge opening time --5-thirty? ---traffic would be at a standstill at the end of the runway-- around the curb and a couple hundred feet along the straightaway---Cay Hill---unbelievable.So, needless to say, "happy hour" at some beach bar was the order of my day--- at that time of day---- NO PROBLEM--- . The island was full --bursting at it's seams---5 and six ships in the harbor on most days--Air France daily---KLM every other day---- and stepped up US & Caribbean arrivals----SXM was wild----fun-- fun--fun . Beach time was split between Maho and Mullet beaches----no need to venture any further-----the weather and water was fantastic everyday------I could not believe it.......never went to the frenchside......Found a little shop on Frontstreet selling Glenlivet for &18.95/litre and Camus,Napoleon for not much more than that---needless to say -----I loaded the wagon and took my chances....picked up a few X-mas gifts and enjoyed the new and funky little beach bars on Great Bay. Tues departure around 3:15-----a late checkout @ PDP ( 1:30 --unheard of---that's why I like this place) --checked baggage to the airport around 10---to Philipsburg for additional X-mas shopping--to PDP for check out----to SSBS for lunch and Presidente's ( out of Carib)----to the airport ---found Mickey and turned the car in---uneventful---no problems.US Air did what they were supposed to do and had a great flight back to reality.....the end
