Thirty years ago we did one week at a time then 10 days now we do two weeks. What are your best plans for a stay in SXM?

We have been staying a month and find it just perfect for us. We can relax and it feels more like we are actually living there, rather than rushing about to try to do several things each day.Like many, we started out with one week, then 10 days, two weeks, three weeks and finally a month. For everyone, finding the perfect vacation time is different and depends upon many different things.

Like most others, we started with one week, 10 days, 2 weeks and we are now going this year for 3 weeks.
I find that sometimes 2 weeks is enough but most times I want to stay longer. I guess it depends what is going on in your life and head at the time. Really looking forward to 3 weeks this year.

In 1997 we stayed one week during the Regatta week and immediately moved to two weeks the next year. About 5 years later we started stretching it out to 2 1/2 weeks and now we're up to a solid 3 weeks which is just right for us. When we go in Nov. (which we haven't done for a few years) we would stay for 10-12 days.

I think two weeks is perfect. Yes, I went for one week and ended up staying 15 years!! LOL. It is great for a 2 or 3 week vacation, but after that you start talking about having to "get off the rock".

You are right, it so depends on each individual. Having done SXM only 4 times now, and each time leaving behind kids, or this last time a teenager and two dogs,,,it seemed unfair to stay longer than a week. However,,having said that, our youngest will be off to university this time next year, so,,,for us, at that point, at least 10 days will be good. We lose 2 days travelling and that doesn't leave much "down" time while on the island, especially because we keep bringing newbies and we have to make the rounds with them! lol

we also started with one week...then made it 8 days....then two weeks....then 15 to 17 days depending on airfare...and now we do three weeks every year...or 22 days depending on airfare. the amount of time you feel comfortable with is the right amount for you. The only one that can decide the right amount for you...is you. smile

We used to do three weeks. Now we are just two days shy of four. Never enough time there.

We also started out with one week, then 10 days, now we try to do a full two weeks. We can't relax enough with one week; wouldn't mind trying three next winter. It all depends on what else is going on at home, of course: kids, pets, job commitments. It never feels long enough when the time comes to leave, though I'm often happy to get home to my own bed. Then the very next day, I find myself wanting to plan another trip -- which is exactly what I did this time.

We started with 10 days, after a few years bought wks 52 and 1 which results in 2 weeks and every 6-7 years includes a 3rd week. A number of years we bought the 3rd week for less than the maintenance fee for that week (thanks to Ray). I'm ready to come home after 2 weeks, my wife could stay for a month+.

Hmmmm. Forty plus years ago we started with a week and quickly expanded to ten days. And with the advent of our four timeshare weeks we now go for two weeks plus twice a year.

So to answer the original question, I can only say the answer has got to be in excess of five weeks, or so it seems to me...... but ask DH and he'll tell you anything more than ten days is too much for him.

I love, love SXM, but one week a year (sometimes 2 separate weeks a year) is enough for me. I miss my house and all my pets. Plus, we go in mid-May and I'm always anxious to get home and get all my flowers planted. I think going at a good time in the Spring makes me more likely to want to get home. If I had to fly home to what we're getting today and tomorrow; I'd probably stay a few extra weeks.

Hey Big Bob...When we met you we had just done a week. We found that it wasn't enough......Last year we did 2 weeks and it was perfect........This year we will also do 2 weeks. Just curious, are you considering doing more than 2 weeks? ...signed Dennis from L.I.

I'll say that when the stores run out of rhum, it's time to leave.

We did 1 week for many years because our kids were still in school and they only had a week for spring break. It was too short! Now we do 2 weeks and that seems about right for us. Guess after we quit our parttime jobs we'll have to try 3 weeks!

We found St Martin on a cruise and loved it. Our first stay was 10 days which then became 14 days on our second stay. In a week, we will be there for 21 days and looking to do 4 weeks in 2016.
I'm not sure if 4 weeks may be too long but I sure am willing to try.

I find 1 week to be too short. We'd love to stay 10/12 days if we could but at this point, due to work, 1 week is all we can spend there.

We have spent anywhere from 6 nights to 14 and we have always been ready to come home except for the first time. The situation has been different each time with someone at home we were concerned about some times and things to get done around home other times. It is an individual thing.

We have always done 2 weeks, and find it perfect for us! Plenty of time to do "stuff", or not much more than beaching and eating! Every year we seem to do more chillin' and less venturing!

For me, it's around 3 weeks. After 2 weeks, I achieve a zen-like state and everything is right and wonderful with the universe, and the mellowness continues to build for another 7 to 10 days. We actually missed our return flight two year's ago because of my embracing island time. Right now, four weeks seems too much, but I'm sure I'll get over that hump.

We also started with one 1 week, than 2 weeks. Figured if we found a cheaper place to stay we could stay longer so we did just that and now stay 3 weeks for less than the cost of 2 weeks. Gonna have to do some house shopping this year to see about a month.

We just love it here. Started with 2 weeks and now we stay for 5 to 6 months in Grand Case. Goodbye to winter in Canada!

We also started with one week and worked up to 12 to 14 days, then we are ready to come home.

We do love St Martin, so we now come for a second trip of 8 to 10 days. Who knows, maybe we'll work that up to 2 weeks as well.

I could stay forever but hubby gets antsy at 3 weeks. We both agree one week is NOT enough.

We started at one week and they was nowhere close to enough for us. Now we are going around 12 days and I wish we could do more. But right now that is all I can be away from work. I find that one week is just not enough time to truly unwind and forget about everything going on at home.

First visit was 5 days, then the next two 7 days. Then ten, which was still not enough! This year we're going for 14 and I'm betting I won't be bored yet by the end. And the countdown is 17 days til we leave, I'm so excited I feel like a kid before Christmas and started packing well over a month ago!

my last 2 trips have been four days! in august, I was on the beach by 1:30 on sunday (great flight with effective connections) and flew out thursday around 2:30 I think. (ditched bags at airport and walked to sunsets for a couple of pre-flight tipples) it was awesome, but I do want a full week sometime soon.
