I'm trying to square up our credit card bill/receipts from our recent trip. Can someone tell me what the current hotel taxes are? Is it reasonable that the tax on a $195/night at a hotel would be $33.15? (The checkout lady at Sebastian's was not helpful or friendly when I inquired)

Thanks!
Julie

Sebastian's website specifically states a 7% Govt. charge and a 10% Service charge. Those are the usual percentages across the BVI's.

That's exactly what it is. Most places charge the actual 7% govt tax ($13.65)on hotels AND an extra 10% service charge ($19.50). In your case, this totals to $33.15.

The hotel tax is a fixed 7%..some places add a service charge of 10% plus too...I would e mail Wanda or James who manage the hotel..also know that in many establishments that "service charge" is just a way to pad the bill and the staff often don't see it..

Don't see how you can dispute a stated rate/charge after a stay.

That is exactly the 7% government tax ( $ 13.65) plus the 10% service charge ( $ 19.50) cited on the their rate schedule, based on the room charge of $195.00.

Perhaps the service charge was something you didn't account for in your calculations?

Well, duh! I could have looked at their website before posting this. Sorry. Yup, bill looks to be correct. I hadn't accounted for the 10% service charge. They don't give you a detailed printout (like in the states) when you check out. Thanks for the clarifications - appreciate it!
