We are looking to rent a villa next year, for a large family event. Will probably need 6-7 bedrooms ..... Any recommendations? Who to deal with, location etc. Will need it for 2 weeks at the end of February 2017.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Where are you looking to rent--French? Dutch? Price range? You may actually be able to rent TWO villas for a cheaper price...

The preferred area is around terres basses. It has to be one villa due to the number of kids involved(there will be a nanny traveling to look after the rascals). Price range- no more than 10K per week, less is better.
Also, does anybody have any experience hiring a chef for breakfast? Just curious what is the cost.

OK, I still think you might be cheaper with two villas, based on the number of bedrooms and the relative cost. When you're talking that number of bedrooms, the price goes up a lot..

You may want to do a search on this site: www.capcaraibes.sprimbarth.com. We have rented villas from them for years and have always been happy with the villas and the prices. They do have several with many bedrooms.

We have also rented from VRBO in the past. Not in St. Martin, but on other Caribbean islands. Have never been disappointed. I know they have many sites on St. Martin, but we have always used Sprimbarth on St. Martin.

www.stmartinblue.com has a number of options for various prices in the Terres Basses area as well. The one problem you may run into is that 7 bedroom villas are not common and are frequently in the "ultra-luxury" category. So, they tend to command higher prices. In addition, you are looking for the busier part of the High Season.

We have rented a few places from various agents but more recently through vbro. If you can't find a place in Terres Basses area you might consider Shore Points in Cupecoy. Their units with rooftop pools would be in your price range. One of the units we rented had nanny quarters in the basement/garage level. The pool had a hurricane shutter if you have little ones, downside is the pool area is not large compared to other villas. There are restaurants across the street and a grocery store. My opinion the downside is the last few times we were there, there hasn't been much beach. Also, I don't know what is the current situation with nude sunbathing on that section of Cupecoy. I'm sure other can chime in on the nude sunbathing but who knows what the sand situation will be other than Mother Nature.

I have a house on VRBO and since they have been bought by Expedia THEY are charging a site to customers on a sliding scale of 3% to 9%. I don't know what the fee would be on a big money rental but be aware! We owners are up in arms but I don't think there is a whole lot we can do except go to another rental site.

Thank you guys for all the info and inputs. We actually were able to narrow it down to 2 villas:
http://isleblue.co/villa/la-Josephine - this is our 1st choice so far.
and
https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental...tm_medium=email
Does anybody know anything about those two properties?
Does anybody know anything about the company that represents the properties?

There are two vills on the same property in Terres Base we rented the 4 bedroom La Nina and there is a 2 bedroom La pinta that are absolutely gorgeous and reasonable. I rented through www.gobeach.com and have rented through this site for 15 years and have been completly satisfied.. I don't think you could be disappointed with these two villas

The poster stated they wanted to spend $10,000 per week or less. The two villas come to more that amount plus on many you have to add on taxes and service fees.

PattyM,
I am wondering how you arrived at $10,276.00. For the time frame they are looking at, the 4 bedroom shows $7,000 per week excluding 10% tax and the 2 bedroom shows $4,000 per week excluding 10% tax. Thanks.

Patty--I totally see where mmk is coming from. I also get the price to be over $12,000, including taxes.

Looking at the photos both look beautiful. Les Jardin is more money, farther from a beach and not in Terres Basses. Maybe the owner of Nina and Pinta would offer you a discount since you would be renting both, its worth asking. It looks like Josephine is $9,600 with taxes. Josephine is represented on a lot of sites so you should be okay going with any of them unless one gives you a perk or two. Enjoy!

Normally that is true. However the poster was responding to someone requesting specifically what they provide. Check out our Terms of Use #1, which states in part "If a fellow BB member posts a question and you provide a good or service which would meet their need, it is OK for you to respond to their question soliciting your service with a brief description of your offering and contact information, provided your service is on topic and would meet their need. You must identify yourself in the note with your representative capacity concerning the product or service that you are providing. Extensive laundry lists of goods and services available will not be allowed. "

I think .... Patty is assuming the posted current discount of 7th night free might apply if you booked now for next yr [or might not!]
If you use that math, the #'s get to the neigthbourhood Patty is noting

However no guarantee you get this yr's current discount next yr - I'd ask if I liked the units

J&B

Yes that is correct I calculated deducting the 7th night on each villa and added 9% tax . We rented Villa Zepher last November and received the 7th nite free and not listed was a free car rental that I had noticed on other villa rentals. I asked and they threw in the free car rental for a week. Doesn't hurt to ask especially if you would be renting both villas for that amount of time.

Guys thank you all very much, I am looking at your suggestions now as well as trying to negotiate a deal with the larger villa.

Facing one "small" issue : the rental agency asking for a 30% down payment and it's fine with me. But they are also asking for 30% payment in August and the remaining balance to be paid 90 days BEFORE arrival... Which is November 2016. I am kind of worry sending them all the money before actually getting there and seeing that they actually exist not only in a virtual world... With so many fraudsters around these days it makes me kind of uncomfortable. I contacted the company and offered them $5K down payment with the balance to be paid IN CASH on arrival. They replied with the following:
"1- Thank you for explaining your feeling about payment.
But our policy is connected to Real Estate Policy, and these are the current rules on our Territory.
The payment is to be completed in full before arrival.
We are renting our Property since 2009, coming to 6 years now…
We received a lot of Families, Group, Conferences, Parties… weddings… Many of them !
All these people never know us before coming, and I invite you to read their Reviews on VRBO #442765."
What are your thoughts about that?

We have booked thru VRBO at least 15 times and have always had a similar payment schedule. We were very anxious the first time but now it's the norm. I agree it is scary.

The schedule they are proposing is fairly normal. If they have been on VRBO long enough they are not looking to fraud you.

i just went to sfo and had to do the same, and yes you will always be anxious on what you will get upon arrival

my two cents
