We were just on a cruise to St Maarten and took a taxi to our favorite beach. I was shocked by the huge waves, I had never seen them before. Is this normal this time of year? And will it most likely be that way in January?

Does anyone have suggestions of a beach we can go to for the day and get a taxi to return? I know of Orient and they usually have waves but is that a better option? I do love Mullet Bay but have only been there when there were no waves.

There's some big swell moving in currently, 2.4 meters at 8 seconds. That is not typical. The swell comes from Atlantic storms.

Divi is often calm when other beaches are not and they do have services available there.

we left SXM less than a week ago and had several great Mullet days…we’ll be back in a couple of days and hope to have some more…we come down every year around this time and normally experience good conditions at Mullet

We have been here since Dec 15th and the waves have calmed down over the last couple of days.
