We arrived in SXM April 15th at 2:30 P.M.
Rented a car from Leslie at Kennys car rental.
Airport was a piece of cake and Leslie had us on the road in about 10 minutes tops.
I must say when we first started driving around the Island to get to Philipsburg, I was disappointed. The Island looked dirty with much garbage everywhere. I decided to go with the flow, not sweat it and I am so ......glad I did.
The Island got more beautiful with every day and every city we explored.
We loved Grand Case and had a wonderful romantic French dinner by the sea at Le Tastevin.
We fell in love with Pineapple Petes. I swear I have never had better mussels. And...........the coconut cake was to die for. Seriously I could have lived on both of those all week.
We went to Orient Beach everyday (except for 2 due to sunburn) to the right of Pedros. Terry and Andy took good care of us. I swore I would never go nude or even half nude and within 1/2 hour of arriving on Orient the top was off and remained off for the duration of the trip. I never want to wear a tight, uncomfortable suit again. It was so freeing and so very natural.
We went snorkeling on the Swaliga. Not as many beautiful fish as other Islands, but fun non the less. I got so....sunburned on this outing that my lips swelled up as if I had botox injections. It was hysterical.
We stayed at Vista Royale in Monte Vista by Point Blanche.
It is a villa with its own infinity pool and hot tub exclusively for our use. It is a gorgeous villa with the cruise ships below. Wonderful sunsets. Great furniture.
Just totally lovely. I would suggest it to anyone. Not a bad price either.
My boyfriend , David, bought me a beautiful yellow sapphire and diamond ring at Caribean Gems. Shopping was so much fun in both Philipsburg and Marigot.
I am addicted to Edna icecream. (sp?). Too bad I'll have to go through withdrawal cuz the states don't carry it.
We also parasailed. Another thing I thought I would never do.
The very first slot machine I pulled gave me $360.00. Then I won 600.00 on roulette.
All in all, a wonderful trip. Great People. Loved Andy at Baywatch. Laugh, Laugh and Laugh some more. Cheryl was Off Island.
No rain the whole week with the exception of 15 minutes of sprinkles on our last day. It was perfect weather.
We will definitely go back.
Only thing I had a problem with was the traffic, but even that we got used to. And.......learned how to drive like the locals. Never got stopped by the bridge. We saw no crime. (I was a little afraid after reading so much about crime on this forum.) I felt very safe the whole time.
The boardwalk in Philipsburg is delightful.
We checked into the airport early Saturday morning and went to have breakfast at SSBB. Great breakfast for $5.00 each.
Then....into the airport and off we went back to Cleveland, Ohio.
Great, great trip. We will go back for sure.
Too many things we didn't get to do.
Oh yes, we tried to horseback ride at Bayside, but my boyfriend weighed too much for the horses. 240#'s.
I would say most men weigh over 200#'s so don't try to go there if you do. They have one horse that can carry 220#'s and other than that, the horses are just too small.
Thanks for listening and for all the advise you gave this nervous nelly months before we left.
Janie
P.S. They could clean up the beach at Orient more. Lots of seaweed throughout the beach. But the water was amazing.
Warm Turquoise and heavenly.
