Say you've got some time to kill on Tortola...

Say you've got some time to kill on Tortola... - 01/14/2016 09:13 PM

If you had some time to kill in Tortola and you wanted to stay close-ish to Hodges Creek Marina (MarineMax), what would you recommend doing?

We arrive on Tortola quite a bit earlier than the rest of our group and have pretty much the whole day to adventure out and have some fun. I was thinking that taking a cab to Josiah's Bay for the day might be the ticket... I don't want to stray too far away in order to keep cab fares somewhat reasonable.

Any input or other ideas? smile

Our group always loves going to Josiah's Bay for an afternoon. The Tamarind is just up the street so you could stop by for lunch or a drink as well.

Hiking Sage Mountain is worth the time, and something different from the water experience.

Without going too far I'd vote for Josiah's too..good food at the beach or Tamarind..lovely beach..if considering the hike dont wear flip flops!

Not in the "fun" category, but (assuming you are chartering and the company permits it) you could get a head start on boat checkout, provisioning, stowing gear, provisions, etc. Then, when the remainder of your party arrives you'll be ready "party".

I would visit the beach at Josiah's for a while, then go to Tamarind Club for a late lunch and a nice swim in their pool. We love just hanging at the pool and swim up bar. The drinks are pretty awesome too!

Consider it may be time to "spend", rather than "kill"...?

Taxi to Fine Foods store, East End for approx. 11.30am. Armed with cooler, buy 2 cooked chickens, bread rolls, water/beers and ice from the store. Back into taxi to Long Bay Beach, Beef Island. Lay out towels, open beers and drink. Swim. Eat chicken and bread (with your fingers) al fresco. Swim again to wash off the grease. Drink more beer. Sleep. Taxi back to your marine-place-thingy. HEAVEN...believe me. Enjoy.

I really liked the Shell Museum...funky.

And I always forget the name of the beach shack with the lovely lady that runs it on the east end of the north side of the island. (below the jail)

Are you talking about Naomi's or somewhere else? Which beach?

yes, the Grape Tree. Real neat little beach shack, with the sweetest lady you will ever meet. Basic food, "made with love"

Interesting comment from the website linked above concerning Sebastain's. Since Davide did some kitchen staff training about a year ago, I wonder? Mal?

There's a rumour in the wind that a popular chef has been hired for the 2016 season! If it's true ... I think dinner guests will be very pleased with this news!

Thanks, everyone, for your input. Looks like Josiah's it is! Only 155 days left - lol <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/impatient.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />
