We did this backwards- Rome to Milan and 15 nights. Not sure what the obvious sites are for you.We were in Rome, Bevagna, Ravenna, and Bellagio. I had been to Florence on my very first European trip, which is probably number one obvious site. Loved every stop and would go back in a heart beat! We picked up a rental car on the outskirts (kind of) of Rome and returned the car at the Milan airport.
