We seem to generally have a problem with one or the other of our passports scanning, when we come back through Miami. The "X" lines in Miami take forever!!

As someone else said, if you check in at one of the kiosks there, the kiosk will print out a boarding pass. Of course if Delta had problems with their system, the kiosk probably wouldn't have worked either.
