Pat....our very first trip to sxm was oct 1999...we got 22 inches in rain in two days. There were mud slides...closed roads...and two people died.

We came back the very next April....our attitude was like yours. Rain happens....wind happens...hurricanes happen...but SXM is resiliant...and after the storm....there's no place like it.
