5/3/11 Saturday
We were going to go to Cappuccino in Simpson Bay for breakfast so I could use the internet, but since it was getting close to bridge opening time we decided to go to do some final shopping in Philipsburg then took the bus to Marigot for a few last things and coffee and pastries at La Sucriere, with a little internet. Deb and Matt had finally arrived from Antigua on Snow Wolf that morning, but since they had sailed overnight they were catching up on some rest. We went down to see the planes land as that was on Kim’s list of must dos. She sunned herself while I tried to get photos of the planes passing over her with limited success.

I split my time between taking the pics, swimming and sitting at the bar chatting with other vacationers. We left in time to miss the bridge and went back to the room where we finished up our leftover jerk meals from the night before, heating them in the microwave. I’ll say again this was a lot of food, I was stuffed after finishing mine, and didn’t have room to help Kim with hers. We packed up most of our stuff in preparation for our flight tomorrow and made one last stroll down the boardwalk to have a couple drinks before heading out to the regatta party in Marigot. Once there we met Ken and Kay and then ran into the rest of the gang. We wished Deb a belated happy birthday and I even texted it to the large screen next to the stage, she really liked that, and it helped me use up some of the prepaid time I had left on the phone. Around 11:00 we bid our final farewell to our friends, we won’t see them again until September when we go to England for Dan and Ems wedding, work schedules permitting. Before leaving Kim and I stopped at the Creole restaurants along the waterfront and had some ribs and chicken from the grills. Being it was so late we to a taxi back to the hotel, $25 with tip and called it a night.
6/3/11 Sunday
We got up early and went to The Barefoot Restaurant for breakfast again. I had the Ham it up breakfast and saltfish on a fried bake with coffee, Kim had a full breakfast with tea. I would like to recommend this restaurant as the food and service were always good, but on this day I asked for a glass of tap water and the waitress told me they don’t serve tap water only bottled. This was our third time here for breakfast this week and we had both ordered beverages but they just had to try to squeeze another two bucks out of us, I passed on the water out of principle and hardheadedness. Sorry for the rant but this kind of thing rubs me the wrong way; it’s the same with the hotel, $150 + tax per night for the room but they want another $10 a day for internet service. In this day and age when everyone uses e-mail you would think they would be happy to have your business without trying to nickel and dime you on things like that. Ok I’m off my soapbox now. We took another stroll along the boardwalk with the intention of having my traditional “last drink in St. Maarten, till the next trip” at Sint Rose, but the rain that morning changed our minds. We checked out of the hotel around 11:00 to beat the bridge and took a taxi to the airport. We flew Continental home, the flight was an hour late leaving SXM and was delayed further in Newark due to some storms down south. My son and his girlfriend picked us up at the airport at 2:00am and another adventure has come to an end.
Thanks to everyone who has been following along, and for all the nice comments. I hope these reports have been both entertaining and informative, if anyone has any questions about any of the places we visited or things we did, just drop me a PM and I will be happy to provide whatever information I can.
