Regarding the trash. We have known a local family for 25+ years and have had the opportunity to be part of several "family" picnics at Mullet Bay under where the Sea Grape trees used to be. I can assure you, they took out all the trash they brought in but I can not speak for what others, local or not do as I know trash on that beach is a huge problem.
We take our own bags with us most times and take our trash out as the receptacles that are there are usually overflowing early in the day.
I have also witnessed many tourists, cruisers and others walk away leaving empty bottles, cups, straws and cigarettes behind.
I feel both establishments along with locals and tourists could all do a better job with the trash. Not only on Mullet Bay but the entire island.
