This is our 2nd year in a row that we have vacationed in Saint Martin, but this is my 1st trip report.

Airline problems: Very frustrating. Arrived at the airport at 6:00 am to catch a Delta flight to Atlanta and then to St. Martin. Our first flight was cancelled. Ended up flying to Atlanta, then to Fort Lauderdale, changed airlines to American, flew to San Juan, and then to SXM. Arrived in SXM @ 9:45 PM. [Linked Image] Since my rental car was supposed to meet us at the airport @ 2:00 PM, we had no car and could not reach the agent by phone. Ended up negotiating a rate with National, picking up the car, and driving to Grand Case Beach Club.

Rest of trip: Outstanding!!!! [Linked Image] Great weather. Spent time at Frier's Bay, Happy Bay, Anse Marcel, Orient Beach, Little Beach (GCBC), Pinel Island, Shoal Bay (Anguilla), and a couple of beaches on St. Barth. All were great.

Disappointment: St. Barth in general. We took the Gustavia Express out of Anse Marcel over to the island. I've never seen so many people sea sick at one time in my life. This was our first trip to St. Barth and given what I had read, my expectations were very high. We rented a car and toured the island. The road system was poor. The roads were very narrow and full of curves. The road signs are tough to read. St. Barth is a rugged island. Expensive. I know that some St. Barth lovers are going to take odds to this statement, but I much prefer St. Martin. Beaches are prettier and better. Road system is much better (hard to believe), and overall is much less expensive.

Restaurants: Hot Tomatoes near the airport is great. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Probably visited Talk of the Town in Grand Case too many times, but the chicken and ribs combination was too good to pass up.

Safety: We walked from GCBC to downtown Grand Case each night and we felt very safe. As usual, the residents of St. Martin were very friendly (including the French).

Less disappointing: Anguilla. Shoal Bay is very pretty. Not a lot else to say about the island. Did enjoy renting a car and driving on the opposite side of the road.

Conclusion: This was our second trip to St. Martin and we are beginning to make plans to return next year. Sooooooo..... relaxing............. We thought about returning to Maui next year, but the flights are so long that it's just not worth it. GCBC was great for us. Clean. Rooms right on the beach. Free continental breakfast each morning.

Bottom line: Is it time to return yet?

[Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image]
