Good advice, I would add be aware of the dangers of where you are swimming. Rip tides and undertow are common. I myself was caught in one at Cupecoy back in 2005. I was only in chest deep water about 40 yards off the beach. The next thing I knew I was 150 yards offshore. My friends could do nothing. I swam back and forth parallel to the shore slowly making my way in. Took me about half an hour to reach my frantic wife and friends. Ive never been so exhausted. No matter how good a swimmer you are, the sea never tires. Be careful.
