Dec. 19 St. Vincent
About 6:45 am, my phone rang and it was the airport, my luggage had finally arrived. They quickly put it on a taxi and delivered it to the boat. I was glad to see it, but really had most everything I needed already, provided I bucket washed my tee shirts every four days or so. I took a few things out, tee shirts mainly, and sent the rest into storage in the engine room.

And past La Soufriere volcano in St. Vincent

We headed off for a full days sail to Cumberland Bay in St. Vincent. This is a beautiful bay, just north of Wallilabou Bay; it’s a shame more yachts don’t stop here the people are friendly and it is a good base for doing day excursions from. Also the cruise ship tours go to Wallilabou for the Pirates of the Caribbean set. We were greeted by a few boat boys and vendors, Mike picked up a nice Blackfish tooth necklace for 15 EC, a good price since I think I paid 20 for mine a couple years ago. Two young boys paddled out on an old plastic kayak to see if we had anything we could give them; Dan and Em keep small juice boxes on board for just that purpose, a chocolate bar thrown in and they left with big smiles on their faces. Old Joseph rowed out to greet us, he had requested that we bring him some fishing line this year, and was quite happy to see that I didn’t forget and supplemented it with a couple packs of hooks, some reading glasses and a watch I got at Big Lots for $6. Young Joseph, from Mojitos, also stopped by and Dan arranged for a taxi to take us to Dark View Falls in the morning. We had some gin and tonics in the cockpit and then most of the crew went snorkeling, while Dan and Em took the dingy to Wallilabou to clear in the boat.

A few of us went for a pub crawl on the beach, starting at Josephs, which is improved since last year, then to Mama Elma’s, and finally across the knee deep water in the stream (full of laughs in the near pitch dark) to mojitos. Dan came ashore to pick us up for dinner, his famous lasagna, on board.

It was a star filled night and after a while I hit the bed, while some of the others enjoyed some nightcaps and the stars in the cockpit

A beautiful sunset on Cumberland Bay as a catamaran motors by in the distance. Life is good.
