May 23rd - June 2nd

This was our 20th trip to St. Martin but the first time we went at the last minute.

After hearing the weather report for the East Coast for Memorial Day weekend, we decided on May 21st to get out of town. Over the years we had spent too many Memorial Day weekends in the cold and rain. Within an hour, we had our plane tickets (~$600 on American, not bad for last minute!), car reservation (Thanks Kenny's Car Rental) and hotel reservation (St. Tropez).

Thursday was spent packing, getting traveler's checks, etc. and then we were off Friday morning. No problem with flights or any other reservations.

Restaurants/Bars:
Spent most of the time on Orient Beach visiting Baywatch (flank steak sandwich), Kakao (pizza), Soka (pannini), Bikini (margaritas) and La Playa (music and drinks).
Also, went to L'Amandier 3 times in Grand Case for great tapas (Camembert cheese doused with Calvados and lit on fire with apple slices and toast, cajun-style crab bruschetta, spring rolls and cajun shrimp).
The new Orient Beach Village is nice at night and spent many evenings at Cotes Plages (the other restaurant close to the Fish Bar) for our "night-caps". Had dinner one night with some new friends and I really enjoyed my Salmon and shrimp dish.
Tried Le Cottage for the first time. Nice lamb chops and foie gras!

Last minute trip was great, spent less time stressing about all the minor details that go along with traveling. Whole trip was worth it after coming back and listening to weather reports from friends.

p.s. Sugarae, Cheryl tried to call you once at work while we were there but couldn't get a hold of you. Playing hooky or was your boss out of the office?
