30 years of diving in the BVI and perhaps 1000 dives and had something happen today for the first time. Diving the playgrounds with the SW wind and about a 1 meter N swell. Vis which is usually excellent on this dive was terrible. Probably about 30 feet. Saw lots of good sized black tips sharks during the dive up to that point. I was swimming near a vertical wall in about 20 feet of depth. Something slammed hard into my tank causing my head to ram into tank valve. Thought my dive partner had kicked me really hard. Rotated around to give him the universal signal of displeasure and saw him about 10 feet away frantically making shark signals. Back on the boat he said a good sized black tip shot out of no where and slammed into the back of my tank. Partner says it looked like it was going for the silver tank valve. The jolt was really hard. They have a lot of power!
