We are bargain hunters who dont spend much time in cabins. We often start hunting here first and sometimes booking with them and others direct with the cruise line.
As for freighters, I just looked and they are not cheap. About 300 euros a day but you get to hang out with the Captain and officers. We will probably never do it unless whole bucket list checked and wanting to totally unplug fom life.
