As a recovery begins, I think it is going to prove very slow for tourists to return to all the Caribbean islands. Many people just won't be able to afford to travel and the airlines and cruise companies will not be offering services as they did previously for quite some time. It is very sad for those islands like St. Maarten/St. Martin that depend totally on the tourism industry for their economic survival. Perhaps this pandemic will cause a shift in their thinking and perhaps another means will be brought about to aid in their economy. The government needs to come up with some programs to train the people to do other things to supplement the hospitality industry. Hopefully this will happen so the people of this great island will be able to stand alone and lead enriching lives and not totally dependent on people from other nations coming to their shores. Perhaps a factory of some sort could be established or a training facility not available in other islands. Sometimes something good can come from something really bad so we can all hope that some positive changes may result after this pandemic has eased off. Tourism will return for sure, but perhaps it will take even a few years for it to be stabilized again. In the meantime the residents need to live as best they can and try to remain hopeful as they look to the future.
