SXM Day 3 – October 6, 2020

It’s a beautiful morning! Breakfast consisted of leftovers on the patio. This morning’s walk took us through Beacon Hill and Maho. Not many other walkers in sight. There’s a lot of sand on Maho Beach. More than we’ve seen in years. There’s a colorful little restaurant near Sunset Beach Bar called Sandbar. The menu looked good and we’re hoping to visit there later in the trip.

We drove to Orient Beach again today, this time through Simpson Bay / Dutch side. It took us a little longer than yesterday’s drive through Marigot / French side, but it was still a nice drive. The chained gate to Club O was open. At 10 AM there were ten chairs set-up on the beach, and none were occupied. We set up our chairs near the path to Perch Lite. A few minutes later another couple arrived. We got some reading in and soaked in the warm ocean water. After a couple of hours we left to have lunch.

Lunch today is at Le Taitu, a wonderful restaurant that has been operating since 1993 (our first visit to the island). The menu offerings here are limited, but fantastic. Salad, fish, pork, beef, chicken, goat, oxtail and a few other items I don’t recall. Marc ordered Linguine Bolognaise and I ordered Chicken in a Blue Cheese sauce. Both meals were so delicious. We really like this small restaurant for food quality and service. They must be doing something right as there were four other occupied tables on a Tuesday afternoon.

Drove back to the villa. We managed a nice soak in the pool before the rain squalls started. Then thunder could be heard in the distance. Around 5:30 we headed to Simpson Bay for Happy Hour at The Palms. We were warmly greeted by dear friends Joelle, Bill and Elaine. More dear friends arrived later – Gail, Guy and Greg. Let the party begin! Then the serious rains came. And now lighting lit up the night sky. Time to move inside. A little later on, Claudette and Stephanie joined us. The rain stopped and we moved outside again. All in all a great evening, full of laughter! After several glasses of rose, we ordered an order of Greg’s famous Drunken Ribs and headed back to the villa. The ribs were plentiful, smoky and tender. One order was more than enough for us to share.

Lights out at 9:00 PM.
