I promised a review of Shans Bungalow some months back in a previous post. I’m sure plenty of you who have visited CGB have seen this brightly colored gem on the road leading up to Road Town. I had the pleasure of staying at Shans Bungalow for 8 days in December and I can’t wait to book it again.
The bungalow is absolutely beautiful and is decorated with Caribbean and Indonesian furnishings. It features a stainless steel kitchen with a smooth glass cooktop stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, blender, etc. There are two bathrooms – one near the kitchen and one in the bedroom. The bathroom near the kitchen has one of those funky, multi-directional spray showers that hit every part of your body. The living room has a queen sized day bed for lounging and an entertainment center with a TV and DVD/CD player. There is a clothes closet with a safe, hair dryer and iron/ironing board. A telephone is available for local calls.
The bedroom is HUGE. It has a king sized bed with mosquito netting. A beautiful armoire with a chest of drawers inside holds your clothing. Another daybed is located on one side of the bedroom. The bathroom is actually a half bath with a designer sink. It’s really only functional for washing hands so I used the front bathroom to freshen up. The shower is located outside of the bathroom and is visible from the bed, which can make showering a little interesting. The back door in the bedroom leads to a very private patio with a wet bar, gas grill and a day bed. An outdoor shower is located on the side of the house so you can wash up before you enter the bungalow.
What I really loved about Shans were the many thoughtful decorative touches throughout the bungalow – the heavy wooden doors leading into the bedroom, the handmade sconces inside and outside the bungalow. White curtains cover the glass doors and windows, and they are also used to partition the dining area from the living room. It gives the rooms an airy feel. Beach chairs, towels and a cooler are provided.
The property is owned by a local businessman and was renovated about 7 months ago. It has a long, rich history as it was Cane Garden Bay’s first post office in 1959. The history is posted on one of the walls of the bungalow.
The beach is just steps away and I usually had it all to myself. The cruise ships were coming in hot and heavy during my stay. One day, there were three docked in RT! But only a rare few ventured past the dingy dock by Quito’s to my side of the beach so it was heaven. (Is it me but are all of them from New Jersey?)
I used to sit in a chair on the front porch of the bungalow and watch the sun go down. That porch was quite the hot spot because the bungalow is located very close to the road and the folks driving by would always give me a shout out.
I have included pictures so check it out:
