We arrived at the Ulusaba air strip to be met by Philip our ranger and Joe our tracker. They took us to safari lodge ( about a 5 minute drive) where the general manager was waiting with champagne to welcome us. He talked to us about not leaving our room alone at night - you have to call for an escort due to passing elephant, leopard and lion! We were shown to a lovely spacious room looking out onto the bush ( accessed by a rope bridge! As Chris said, if you'd seen Indiana Jones you'd know exactly what to do if it broke!) After lunch, unpacking ect we were ready for our afternoon game drive. We left at 4.30pm, arriving back around 7.30pm stopping for drinks in the bush in the middle. The game drives where absolutely fantastic. We saw all the big 5 at least every day, and once all in 1 drive. Garraffes, warthogs, hippo, baby rhino and 3 wondeful leopard, as well as lots of breeding herds of elephant ( with 1 tiny baby), chameleons, numerous antelope. I'll get round to the photo's! It was simply the most wonderful experience. The lodge was extremely comfortable, food excellent and an interesting touch was an observatory with a big telescope - here is no lght pollution so the stars/ moon/milky way very visable. Looking at the moon with an armed ranger watching out for passing lions was an unforgettable experience!! We loved Ulusaba - a couple were getting married the day we left and I thought it would be a wondeful place for a wedding. We love our annual pligamige to Virgin Gorda, but this was up there as the best experience of our lives. If you haven't been, GO.
