Can you believe, we were there on the island when the existing road over the hill was being built and paved beyond what was once a dirt one lane road (or wide path? or so we were told at the time) which was our very first trip in '73 and when the bridge BEFORE the draw bridge we know today was floated into place replacing the original bridge, and when you put it in that perspective, the strange lay of Cole Bay does make more sense to me. Just hadn't thought about it before.....
