I was think the same thing - doesn't your luggage have to accompany you through Customs? The AA web page lists several international cities which the service can be used with. I haven't flown through all of them, but I recognize a couple as cities where you pre-clear there before returning to the US. https://www.aa.com/i18n/urls/bagdelivery.jsp
