Hi all

Is it possible for our captain to pick up our catamaran at Sunsail and pick us up in St Thomas? Do we have to be there to pick up the cat?

Yes, we would be hiring him through Sunsail.

Since we live in California, there is no easy way to fly to Tortola. It is either a red eye or overnight in St Thomas or San Juan. Ferries or expensive and almost sold out Sea Bourne schedule.

We were thinking if we flew to St Thomas on a red eye our Sunsail captain could check out the boat and sail over to Red Hook (? which is the closest dock?) and pick us up. We can arrive in STT at 1:23pm and all will have carry on luggage.

Sunsail charters basically start in the evening and then you get to leave the dock the next morning (a mandatory sleep-aboard if you will.) Not sure how this would fly with them. It would seem that even if they agreed, you'd be paying for an extra day that you're not using the boat.

A pick up in St John may be easier - closer and Customs are located there for your Captain, he has to clear in and then clear you into the BVI when you go there too.
If you are provisioning ahead of time in Tortola you will have to have that taken care of before he leaves or go and provision later.
All that said it may be easier all around to just take the ferry to Tortola from STT.

Seems like it would have been easier to have chartered a boat out of STT.

best answer yet. Who do you want this to be convenient for, you who are paying, or the Captain. If Sunsail allows, have him pick you up in Crown Bay, more user friendly, less expensive provisioning, and 5 minutes from the airport. It's only another hour from Red Hook to Charlotte
