Just returned home from the paradise that was Tortola. Stayed at Sebastian's Villas to be near the surf and it was great for 5/8 days of our stay. Driving and sharing the narrow roads with cows, donkeys, goats, chickens and baby chicks was an adventure in itself. Smuggler's Cove was our favorite beach and we plan to return next year.

My poor body took a beating though. I must have been bitten at least 300 times by the tiny no-see-ums that come out at dusk. Also, I was snorkeling in Smuggler's Cove, got into shallow water and touched the back of my right calf to fire coral. It immediately felt like someone was holding a blowtorch to it and in my haste to turn I touched the back of my left thigh to it also. The pain was incredible and I had huge red welts where I touched it. It's 8 days later and the areas are still red, raised, sore and extremely sensitive to hot or cold. How long does it take for exposure to this coral to resolve?

Also, I met a lovely woman who lives at Cane Garden Bay - her husband drives the only Hummer on the island - and she urged me to use bug spray as there is currently an outbreak of dengue fever on the island. The government is spraying around Road Town and trying to get residents to clean up areas where mosquitos can breed.

We ate at BVI Steak/Chop and Pasta - fabulous meal and what a view! SkyWorld for lunch was also wonderful. Quitos was a disappointment - snotty waitresses, lousy service, watered down drinks and they charged us $10 for a bottle of water. Jolly Roger's has the best hamburger on the island when you've just got to have one.

Can anyone give me some info as to what the weather is like during Sept/Aug down there?

Thanks - Valerie
