It is has been 10 years since our last visit to Andalucía and I cannot wait until we can return. If you are looking for day trips here are a few options we enjoyed.

You have to go exploring in the white villages that line the mountains overlooking the sea.

To the west you villages like Mijas and Ojén, and to the East the village of Cómpeta or the seaside resort town of Nerja. All are worth a visit.

Rhonda – It is a drive to this town well into the mountains, but well worth it. A very historic old town where Moorish influences can still be seen, as well as, the home of the notorious bridge that many were force to jump off during the Spanish Revolution. Did you/Have you read “From Whom the Bell Tolls”?

We also enjoyed Gibraltar. Lots of funny memories from that day that revolve around the monkeys who live on top the rock. We looked across to Morocco, but we decided that the amount of time to go and come back for just a short visit was not worth the time we would have to sacrifice in Spain. That is Morocco you see behind the monkey on the left side of the photo.

Marbella is another seaside town and a great place to end the day walking the Promenade after finishing a Paella for two with a wonderful Rioja.

If you like boats and seeing the rich famous there is small village that is primarily a marina called Puerto Banús. We were told it where yachts go when they are too big for Monaco. This is where I celebrated my 50th birthday with a wonderful dinner and dancing. Fancy stores and Fancy Cars line the marina filled with big boats… excuse me yachts… or is it ships???

If you are not a Spanish speaker do not worry there are many folks from the British Isles that vacation/moved to Andalucía so English is widely spoken. I promise you will have a wonderful time in Andalucía and the list above is just a short one.
