I would like info on GCBC room suggestions. This is wife and my first trip to SXM not on a cruise. We have decided this is where we want to stay. We will stay about a week. We want ocean views. We tend to want to be not on ground floor, but will consider if a good view. 2nd or 3rd floor is preferred but will like all of your comments. Not necessarily on a budget, but what is your suggestion as to rooms with best views and price. Thanks in advance.

Seems like a simple request. I'd recommend either building 100 or 200. On the second floor, you'll have a choice of a 1 BR or a studio. Same choice on the 3rd floor, except the units have a loft (more space and more $). These 2 buildings have a direct ocean view.

The problem with GCBC is they cannot guarantee any specific floor choice. Make your wishes known and they will try to accommodate but no guarantee .

We have only requested an oceanview studio and we've always gotten something in 100 building but never on the same floor. One year we told them hubby had a hip replacement and they tried to get us into 1st floor since they do not have elevators. We had to spend one night on 2nd before 1st was available. But they did try.

encpirate,

I tend to agree with the previous poster - they cannot guaranty with absolute certainty any specific unit but they will definitely TRY to get you the room of your choice.

We stayed in a studio with loft and loved it but will absolutely agree the stairs involved make these units NOT the best choice for every guest, particularly if you have an issue with several flights of stairs with luggage.

We also really enjoyed the view from our unit but you should know we found the balconies are really not usable for much of the day due to the beautiful but HOT, HOT, HOT sun shining directly on them. Loved them in the early mornings and late afternoons, however. We decided while there next trip we might try a ground level walk out unit and would forego the privacy for the shade.........

GCBC is wonderful and wherever you stay, I think you'll be happy. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Hopefully, you can get 2nd or 3rd floor, as you wish. But, I can tell you, we've stayed on the 1st floor in building 200 several times and actually loved being able to walk right out the door to the beach/lounge chairs. If you're worried about security, there are folding metal doors that you can lock in addition to the glass door leading out to the patio area. Never felt unsafe there - the security guard(s) are always nearby.

There is a way to guarantee (but call to verify) a room in the 100 or 200 building if that's your desire. Request an ocean front, either a studio with loft or 1 BR with loft, as these room types are only in those two buildings and only on the 3rd floor. The only downside would be they may upgrade you somewhere else if those units are full, although there are 10 studios and 4 one BRs to rent.

GCBC is a great place to stay and Grand Case is a wonderful town to dine. In six days I'll be sipping Ti Punches there.

Love GCBC! We have stayed in a 1 bedroom ocean front 1st fl, and a studio oceanfront 2nd fl. Loved both! This time we have a 1 bedroom oceanfront, no idea what floor. All are beautiful and tranquil.

To increase your chances of getting your specific choice, be sure to book directly with the GCBC and not through some third party.

We are here right now. We have stayed in the loft, the 1 bedroom and the townhouse. I prefer the 1 bedroom. The problem with the loft is the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs.
We are with another couple so we have the townhouse now. We have stayed here before and they have locked the second bedroom.
I personally like the first floor. You have your porch and the lounge chairs overlooking the water.
