Greetings.

Could someone be kind enough to point me in the correct direction of a liquor store? I'm sailing out of Oyster Pond, and my trip schedule is too tight to have enough time to cab around looking. Last charter I recall seeing a small store called Dirty Des at the Moorings/Sunsail base. A store with online ordering and delivery to my boat would be ideal.

Cheers!

Le Grand Marche has yacht provisioning services.

TTOL sponsor Shop and Drop has regular grocery deliveries and I think has also started a yacht provisioning business, but you should check with her.

If you have time to do it yourself, Grand Marche, link above, is probably the closest large grocery store to Oyster Pond, although there are not really any large grocery stores really close to OP. You don't really need a liquor store per se, in SXM, as the grocery stores all have large liquor departments. There are a bunch of liquor stores downtown, but you don't really want to have to deal with one of those, as it would be a hassle with traffic and parking.

Cash and Carry is a standalone liquor store in Cole Bay, and has some of the lowest prices on liquor, but they don't have as good a selection as Grand Marche. Don't know if they have delivery or not. (Despite the name, Cash and Carry accepts credit cards..)

On your way to Oyster Pond, you can easily stop at Cost U Less, a large store like Costco in the USA, but does not require membership. It carries everything you will need at the best prices!

I forgot about Cost U Less. That is a good suggestion. They do have a relatively limited array of wines though, compared to Grand Marche. They are right across the street from GM though, so if the OP has time, he could hit both.

Depending on what you want to do, if you continue on to the bottom of the hill going past the turn to Captain Olivers, which is also a route to the harbor, then take a right, you will see on your right a small grocer with the name "Wine Cellar" out front. If you make it to the big speed bump on the main road you have gone a tad too far. I was just in there and they have greatly expanded their selection of wine and especially hard liquor. Very easy in/out as opposed to running around in the big stores. The negative is that prices will be higher but it is maybe a two minute drive from there to the harbor docks. Tho, should be cheaper than the on-dock liquor store and you can make you own selections. They also have a selection of mixers and convenience store type groceries. We drive right by it on our way to/from Orient Beach so will be doing some price comparison -v- Grand Marche. Otherwise, Jeanies Shop n Drop for pre-order & delivery.
I will be in there again in the next few days, so if you have any questions give me a shout.
Orient Beach was "toasty" today, lots of in-water time.

Thanks Dunkin!

My problem is my crew (not myself) are damn high maintenance and will only drink miller/Coors lt beer. So finding those can sometimes be a challenge in the islands.
I could also purchase via Sunsail/Moorings, but The Man tacks on about an extra 20% over local prices.

I believe I know this place. It it a small grocery store a couple minutes stroll from Olivers? My wife bought some pastries there that were delish.

There are two grocers near. The closest is Au Pain de'Epices(sp) which is directly north of Olivers. The Wine Cellar is about a block and half inland on the same named road. Both have pasties so hard to tell.
Miller? Coors?? ..... why not just bring kool-aid??
FYI - the DinghyDock now carries a large selection of bottled craft beer, don't know if they sell in bulk.
I did not notice the beer selection today but will stop by to-nite or tomorrow and check.

Thanks Doug,

Since you mentioned craft beer, I just found a bottle of Christmas Ale and a Chillwave by Great Lakes.

Coors Lt is readily available in St Maarten. You'll find it in most if not all grocery stores.

Thirsty,
I spoke with Ali, the bartender at Iguana Bar and Kurt , the former bartender/manager at Dingy Dock. They say Coors Light is readily available on the island but Miller Lite can be a challenge. They recommended Caribbean Liquor and Tobacco in Phillipsburg. I saw Coors Light at Le Grand Marche at the round about in Phillipsburg for about the same price I pay for it in the states. Hope this helps.

Just at Grand Marche, Phillipsburg. Checked out the beer aisle. Coors Lte and Bud/Bud Lite $21 plus a little change a case of 24. Had a fair stock on the shelf of both. Carib $19 a case. Also lots of Corona, Red Stipe, etc. Presidente about $21 a case. Heinekin about $23 +change. To give you a comparison at GM both Stoli and Smirnoff 1 ltr vodka were $8.50+. At the local store, Wine Cellar, same was $14. You drive within feet of Grand Marche on your way to Oyster Pond.
Legitimate alternative to Coors/Miller Lte ....Kool-Aide ........cheap.
Big selection of European and South American wines, some CA wines. Good liquor selection.
FYI, at GM they have bag boys that will help with bagging and toting out and loading purchases. They work just for tips so do so generously. Multi check-out lines. Take VISA. Quick n easy. You know the back way going by the zoo or up thru the Dutch Qtr as opposed to the backside of P'burg? Generally saves some time.
Last 36 hours we have been getting 10' to 12' breakers over reef outside of Oyster Pond channel, however craft further out are not bouncing around too bad. Seems to be long slow swells as opposed to rough chop.
Have a safe trip down. IF you have time hit Dinghy Dock for a few and grub, under some kool management.

Awesome Dunkin, thanks for the heads-up. I'm either going to stop at GM or possibly use Booze it up .
Crazy about all the swells. Wind Guru has it really calming down in the next few days. Winds around 10-14 and seas less than 3'
Entering/departing Oyster Pond in rough seas is not enjoyable.

dirty des is no longer there; it's now a lounge of some sort that doesn't seem to be open much. for provisioning, we used grand marche and were satisfied. as mentioned, jeannie of shop n' drop is another option to consider, especially if you are looking for something very specific in terms of brands. she might be easier to work with on searching for those items than grand marche. someone mentioned craft beer. dinghy dock is right there and they have an extensive craft beer selection. they might not provision you, but you can stop in for a cold one or two pre/post sail. have a fun sail!

0645 19th. Wave formation and height at crest look to be slacking off from what we've had the past couple days. Looking alot more like "normal" You may get lucky.
