We haven't eaten at Mark's in years so want to give it a try this trip.

A good variety of reasonably priced and well prepared food. Lots of local business and a brisk carry-out business most of the time also.

We have eaten at Mark's Place on lots of Sundays in February. If he's closed now, it doesn't say so on his website. I would definitely call there to check it out.

Possibly a low season thing to be closed on Sunday?

They provide good food, and usually a lot of it, at a very reasonable price. I usually end up with their chicken alfredo, which they call 'garlic chicken' or something like that, and always have enough left over for at least one meal, sometimes more!

When I read about them being closed on Sundays I was surprised, too. I know we've eaten there on numerous Sundays but not sure if they were in December or April. We love to go there for lunch on Sundays and see all the island families coming in after church all dressed up and looking great as we sit there in our more casual attire.

Still haven't gotten there after 16 trips. What is good besides ribs? This will be the year. We will have four weeks to get there.

I'm not a fan of them myself, but many people have said the mussels are very good. Otherwise, it's burgers, as I said, alfredo chicken, sandwiches, comfort food. Great garlic bread too..

They serve French fries with the mussels. We always sub pasta for the fries. Now that's a meal.

EVERYTHING that they put out is delicious. I have had some of the Italian food there...lasagna, veal parm, etc...and it is BETTER than most of the fancy Italian restaurants mentioned here often....but priced under 15 bucks...and twice the size portions!!!!! Mark's Place, hands down, is probably one of the island's best kept secrets. Very casual.....inexpensive.....and GREAT service go a long way!!!!! They do a tremendous take out business also with the locals. A true hidden gem.

We thought their lasagna & Chicken parm was far superior to Izi restaurant in Simpson Bay.

You mentioned this about two years ago here on TTOL and I took your suggestion and ordered the Veal Parm. BIG MISTAKE as it was awful. Worst meal of the trip. Everyone's tastes are different and I respect that but to say that Mark's is better than most of the Italian Restaurants on the island is incredulous .
Now I like Mark's Place for most of their menu items and will dine there again in a couple of weeks but NOT the Veal Parm.

Sorry you had a bad meal. It wasn't me who mentioned it 2 years ago but someone else did here and I took their advice.

We live so close to the best Italian food in NE that we seldom eat Italian while on vacation. Locally, hubby has a specific place for Bolognase, another for Parm and so on. He had the Parm and said it was very good. I had the Lasagna which was far better than Izi's. At Izi's the sauce tasted like Campbells tomato soup.

Sorry I am not sure what people mean when they say the Cul-de-sac? Still getting to know the streets, etc. but sounds like a place I would like to try. Thanks

No, if you're going toward P'burg, you go UP the hill and DOWN the hill, going sort of straight through the roundabout at the top of the hill (as opposed to turning right to go down into P'burg proper) and Mark's is at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, right there by the Grand Marche.

Totally separate building from Grand Marche, although it is at the end of a "strip mall" and share the parking lot.

Thanx, Naked. I know exactly where it is but I couldn't recall if it was a seperate building or a part of the same one. Hi Carol,

Edie and I are doing well. We only get down to SXM once a year or so but still enjoy it. After spending 3 months in Florida each year, Edie like to enjoy our time at home as much as possible. It's hard to believe it's been 27 years and about 48 trips to SXM. A lot of good friend and good memories!

Anyone remember the old location in Cul de Sac? Is it still the same owner? Back then we would be there twice a week at least in January.

Just got back from SXM and went to Mark's Place 3 times. Love the food , atmosphere, and the prices. Parking can be tricky but always find a spot.

O goodness - I sure do remember the original Marks Place but my question is: how did we ever find it in the first place? The roads and the signage were all so very bad.......and I remember making a reservation that first time - by getting out of the car and writing our names and preferred time and date in their reservation pad......those really were the days, my friends!

Oh, Yes! Our first experience with Mark's Place was on the French side!

Hate to make this thread any longer but since Mark's Place has become our default restaurant when we are deciding where to eat, I will add that everything we have had there has been very good. Lisa plans to order the goat stew that others have raved about. I will pass on that and stick with a good steak or ribs.

How late are they open?

Is it open air or enclosed?

Thanks!

It is open air. As far as how late they are open, not super late, maybe 9:30 or 10?
