Decisions, decisions. Last Sunday we encountered some adorable children playing with kittens at Kakao. Talked with an island friend and she put us in touch with SXM PAWS, and it was felt they should be rescued before they grew to be reproductive and wilder. We went back to Kakao on Tuesday and asked the owner his thoughts on the kittens. He wanted them gone and sprinted to the back for a Corona box to give me for transporting them. One of the little guys is bolder and more adventurous than the other two. He climbed out of the box and spent the ride cuddling with me or sitting on my shoulder. None of them were scared or meowed...just watched out the window at their changing world. In that brief trip back from Orient I fell in love. Corinne suggested I adopt him and bring him back to the U.S....though she would have NO problem getting all 3 adopted, as white kittens are rare on the island. Just today she had people fighting for them. A professor at the medical college is taking one, before I had even turned them over! Is it crazy to think about bringing a kitten back? I already have two 16 year old Tabbies in the house, and another 4 year old who is mostly an outdoor kitty until Winter. Has anyone done this? Should I just leave the kitty here?

Post removed by Carol Hill. I'm sure this post was in jest, but was very upsetting to the original poster.

There's always a party pooper in every crowd, so I will be that person, I guess. I am really ambivalent about this question about adopting island animals, considering how many animals are euthanized in the US. Both of my dogs now are adoptions (from here in the US). Since these particular kittens would in fact get adopted on island anyway, maybe you could try to find some other ones to adopt? It doesn't sound like, from your description, that right now is the ultimate time for you to adopt? Best wishes making your decision.

We adopted a cat last year from Ursula at I Love My Island Dog shelter. It was no troubles bringing home. All we had to do was go online to Jetblue's website and add the pet fee to our reservation. Coming back to the US, we showed the immigration officer her pet passport(French side vets issue official EU Pet Passports), we were sent to secondary because of the cat, but the officer there said they don't have to inspect cats, so we were sent on our way. If you choose not to bring it home, please take it to a shelter.
