The day started as our previous days have with blaring sun and not a cloud overhead. We've seen clouds but haven't had one cover the sun for us here at Pelican. Went to ZEE BEST yesterday for breakfast. Plate of pastry in the middle, but I had an omlete and Helyn had French toast. Both were very good. I'm a little skitish about those pastry they serve because you know the ones you don't eat go to the next table. Who know who and how many hands have touched them before you even see them. Not sanitary in my twisted mind <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />. Then it was off to the Grande Marche. Our first trip through the new round about was impressive. It is a "GREAT" addition to the island. The Grande Marche was the Grande Marche. It for those who haven't been is very large and stocked with even more of our American favorites this year. But there are also tons of European treats as well. Love it!!! When we were finished there we were back to Pelican to take care of some business in the resort offices and then to unload the car and head to the pool. Spent a couple hours there went back to the room for lunch and then right back to the pool for some more water and lounge time in the sun. One of our group made a huge pitcher of Margarita's from her special recipe. everyone at the pool enjoyed them. Have a nice tan base on me already.
Evening has brought us to the New Italian Restaurant on Welfare road in Simpson, IZI. Parking is no problem as there is a large lot for the rest of the mall it is in. There are 2 other new restaurants in the mall as well. We had tried all afternoon to get a reservation but the phones were not working properly so we took a chance. Luck had it that we got in at 7:30 with no problem. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We took indoor, as I think the outdoor is not my style. Its right next to Welfare Road with the cars wizzind by your side. The interior of the restaurant is simply beautiful. It is done in white and red and has both tables and booths. We sat in a booth which was nice, quiet and private. The menu is a bit different than most as most entrees are one from column A(sauce) and one from either column B, C or D(pasta). Funny that they are seperated as red sauces, white sauces and green sauces. Sounds like the Italian flag to me. They are all in the $15 to $20 range. There are about 10-12 different choices of sauce. There are also about another dozen different entrees such as 3 different lasagna's and others listed on the next page. There were only 4 of us tonite as the others decided to stay in. My appetizer was the pea soup which I must describe as one of the best soups I have ever had. It was great. The others had minestrone and ceasar salad. Both were fine. My entree was a sauce made up of eggplant, zuchini and peppers with a tomato sauce and broccoli with linguini. I picked it because I had never had a sauce like that and was feeling adventurous. Well it was well worth the chance. Sounding a bit boring here but it was very good. The others had the lasagna(which I tasted and it was really quite good), ravioli with a mushroom sauce(I also tasted, NICE) and a linguini with a garlic sauce which was a bit too garlicy for me. All agreed that this was one "GREAT" meal. We skipped desert as we were pretty full as the food served was abundant, but we also wanted to go down the street to the "new" Carousel. We were dissapointed when we got there as it was closed. Don't know if it is opened yet but the article I read in one of the magazines has it sounding fantastic. More on this another time. Or maybe someone can add some info below. All in all I'd have to rate IZI as one of the top Simpson restaurants with out a doubt. Not as elegant or exquisite a menu as some but certainly delicious food which is actually what most of us go to a restaurant for. Also I'd like to add that the staff is wonderful and extremely attentive. I can't rave much more for any restaurant. In fact we loved it so much we made reservations for 10 for later in our trip to give some of the rest of our growing group a chance to revel in their great food. I give IZI 5 claps out of 5....
