Overall, another great trip to St. Maarten/Martin-the trips never seems to be long enough!
Arrived on Sunday the 29th of Novemebr and went through customs in no time and picked up the car from Thrifty. We checked in at the Pelican and then picked up some supplies at the Peli-Deli, as the Grand Marche was closed by the time we arrived. The unit we were assigned at the Pelican had just been remodeled and was nice, except for its location which required a lot of walking to get to the unit. The room was nice, had a great view of the ocean and there was wifi in the room.
We spent every day on Orient beach and had 5 good days of weather. We relaxed under the umbrella every day at either Kon Tiki the first day but then used Kakao the rest of the week. Every night we partied at the Sunset Bar and Grill and had a great time. The music was good and the drinks were flowing.
On Sunday, we drove over to Grand Case and went to Spiga’s for dinner on the first night. We had a great dinner and then walked around Grand case and did some shopping. On Monday we went to Peg Leg and used the Caribbean card (2 for 1 on the meal) and had a great steak dinner. And since we were there, we also used the Princess Casino card that was part of the Caribbean card to play black jack. The Princess casino is located right next to the restaurant so it was convienent and Peg Leg also gave each person $10 worth of coupons to go play black jack in the casino. The casino had its dress code posted at the entrance and flip flops and hats are not allowed. On Tuesday we eat at Spicy, in Grand Case, and had a great meal. Sophie was there and she was a bubbly as ever, even though she is going through cancer treatments. We parked in the new lot next to the bridge and it is paved, has lights, and it was free. Wednesday we eat at Pineapple Pete’s and again used the 2 for 1 Caribbean card and had a great meal ( grouper stuffed with crab). On Thursday, we eat at La California in Grand Case. The views are great but we had and OK meal.
We did stop in Philipsburg to do some shopping and went to Gulmohars to pick up some alcohol and cigarettes. They know their alcohol. We picked up some 18 and 25 year old scotch (4 bottles), cognac (1 bottle), liquor( 1 bottle) and Rum Jumbie(1 bottle). We had no trouble bringing back 7 bottles through customs. Gulmohar’s had wrapped the bottles in air bags and that worked great in packing them in our suitcases. We also stopped at the Dutch chocolate place and bought some chocolate that is gone already.
We had to leave earlier than scheduled as there was an emergency at home. USAIR was nice enough to only charge us $400 to change our tickets from first class on Sunday to coach on Friday. Wasn’t that nice of them when the plane was half empty? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" />
