Just checking in the TTOL community if anyone is chartering Sunshine (Lagoon 450) from TMM in November or December ? We are chartering her in January and are anxious to hear any news, trip reports etc.

I'm interested in hearing how usable the forward single-berths are on the Lagoon 450. We are with TMM in June on a 450 with plans to put a teenager in the forward berth.

I have had guests on our 450 use the forward single berth in July... good ventilation with both the hatch open and the inner hull porthole open... certainly not as comfortable as the interior with the AC at that time of year, but perfectly functional...

Does TMM put a/c in the forward coffin berths of their Lagoon 450s? Our teenagers loved the a/c coffin berths in the FP Helia 44 we chartered from CYOA.

Cheers, RickG

I don't believe that Lagoon puts AC in those pilot berths. There are fans and a hatch that can be left open to allow air exchange with the forward cabin.

I have a 2015 L450 and there is no access through the front cabins, only the top hatch. You may want to check on the specific boat you are chartering.

I understand that the hatch is similar to an overhead hatch. It could be described as an escape hatch. This information comes from lagoon.

From the TMM website regarding the 2017 Lagoon 440 .... "A secure hatch in the forward staterooms, when opened from the staterooms, allows occupants direct access to the forepeak cabins. This direct access is ideal for families with children or for easy storage of luggage and other supplies."

Rhumbline, the forepeak berths are pretty basic. There is no access from the forward cabins, nor are there any portholes. The only opening hatch is the deck hatch.

Having said that, there's plenty of space for a teenager and there is a fan in there as well ... I think. Call Didi or your broker to confirm. Teenagers can sleep anywhere. When I flew to Toronto in July, I saw a teenager sound asleep while standing up and leaning against a wall in the departures lounge!

Anyway, if it gets too hot in there, he/she can always move to the cockpit, the trampoline or the fly bridge. There are plenty of other places to crash.

Liane - maybe on the older models the external porthole in the forepeak didn't open, but on the 2016 450F that I have in the TMM fleet (Ariadne) the porthole absolutely opens. My crew member that used it commented that with the porthole open, and the hatch cracked open above, and the electric fan running, it was perfectly comfortable... and he was in his late 40's! A teenager should be fine smile

Just need to be very disciplined about shutting it in the morning before slipping the mooring...

The 'escape' hatch back into the part of the boat, through the W/T bulkhead to the double cabin, is not a simple thing to have open. Its heavy, swings on a hinge across the top, and is covered by a mirror on the bulkhead in the double cabin. So - not a simple access point.

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions about the 450 - she is a fabulous model boat.

Graeme

Thanks for all the information.

TMM based confirmed the 2016 450 has a hatch to allow movement between the two forward berths. A few of the 450's in the fleet have "macgyvered" the forward mirror with a latch so it can be swung open and left open.

We have a 450 Lagoon with TMM. We had teenagers in the forward berths over Thanksgiving. It was the second trip my 17 year old slept there. There is no a.c. in there. There is a small fan and light and a pothole on the side and a hatch above. If there was a breeze he was comfortable.
