hi ... I know things change daily but just curious as to whether Mullett has been the bathtub I prefer lately, or has had 10 foot waves like I experienced last time I brought my sister to SXM 2 years ago in December. She could not believe that I told her any other time my family had been to Mullett it was very calm. 2 years ago we were afraid to go into the water the waves were like Hawaii! I'm bringing my sister back in a week .. any input into what the wave situation has been lately would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

It can easily change from day to day and hour to hour. Best to check it out when you are on the island and have an alternate plan if the waves are too big. Typically the "Christmas winds" are around in early Dec. into Jan. and beyond so I would not expect every day to be "bathtub" conditions.

So very true...we've been there on days when it started out looking like a bathtub and just hours later 8'+ waves rolling in!! Not my cup of tea but we just take our chance, if it's tooo rough, on to another beach!

What are the calmest alternate beaches people use. We are getting to the age when we need calm water.

Friars Bay is usually fairly calm.

We always seem to find the beach at Anse Marcel to be extremely calm and very easy to enter and exit the water without any noticeable 'shelf' and the water does tend to be very shallow there. Ddepending on where on the island you're staying it can be a bit of a drive but it's worth it once you get there. Just know, it is NOT an inexpensive day if you rent chairs and do lunch there. When we were there in April, two chairs with an umbrella and table ran twenty euros. But it was such a nice day and the food is very, very good. To me, if it weren't for the price, it would be a perfect day at the beach!!

Friars Bay is also very nice, the food is out of this world and while I understand they are now charging for chairs, the expense is minimal compared to Anse Marcel. There are usually a few feet of small round rocks where you enter the water though they do attempt to rake them every morning, and there is often a shelf to step up when exiting the water.

Galion Beach has been my choice for the last few years due to knee and hip problems. It is always calm, protected by a reef. With all the recent controversy of the French Nature Preserve, I don't know what current conditions for access and amenities are.

Kimsha beach for smooth as glass water and great lunch at BBB!!!

Grand Case Beach

Ans Marcel is indeed calm but has a weird vibe, resort-like for our tastes.

Grand Case is our choice dependably calm and wonderful vibe as well as food/drink choices. The vid above is pretty representative of overtime we've been there.

You know it's funny. We used to stay there and leave everyday to go to Orient. Grand Case is a great beach. It is calm, snorkeling is ok and the food and drink options are great.

Where on Grand Case...?

Creole island right out front. Take a boat there.

Several of the tours go to Creole Rock for snorkeling. I would imagine most/all of Grand Case Beach is pretty calm. Several beach options for food and drink.
