I have chartered from Pro Valor many times. They tell me they are moving out and shutting down. Has anyone heard anything about this?

My second question is: Where to go? I liked the small family set up and ease of business with them. Old boats but they were OK and all reasonable. Any advice for substitutes?

Thanks for any help and info on any of this.

Captains Compass is run with the same philosophy. We have chartered with Brent ( the owner of CC) and we enjoyed his operation so much we purchased a 43 Beneteau and is chartered through Captains Compass.

I am not sure you want Brent's name and Pro Valor in the same thread. There is some history there if I recall. No idea who was right or wrong.

The history in question is simple. Brent founded ProValor, built it up to a very successful business, he sold it when he needed to return to Canada. After a brief period, with the urging of some boat owners, Brent returned to the BVI and started Captains Compass. With the same ethics and business expertise he operated ProValor, he has built Captains Compass into a very attractive charter company currently offering 9 boats, both cats and monos. The fact his boats are always out on charters shows he provides a highly attractive value. No one matches how well he maintains his boats and his personal attention to the satisfaction of both those who charter and the boat owners. Anyone who has been happy with ProValor the past few years will be more then pleased with Captains Compass.

A totally unbiased opinion.

Some of the boats left charter, some went to Conch. We were withnProValor and and have moved to Seabbatical and are very happy with our first impressions. Love the small and personal approach.

Check out Conch. A smaller charter company with personalized service, great boats, and great people.

Here's a second vote for Conch. Never been disappointed in their boats / service. Just back from a ten day charter last month on one of their Leopards 4600. Couldn't ask for anything better. Smaller company, good boats and great personal service.

Maybe this is highjacking the thread? The Mods are certainly free to delete or move it.

Much is known and very public about boat ownership in the new boat fleets like the Moorings and many other BVI operators mentioned here on TTOL.

What is the difference for a an ownership when you place a boat with one of the operators listed above or known to the BVI TTOL crowd? Are the boats just as clean, well maintained, or other that actually matters to vacation family? Does the owners do better or worse financially with the lower asset values in the "2nd Tier" fleets? The depreciation hit is massive on a brand new boat. The depreciation should level out at some point? When do the fleets push boats out in the ProValor style of operation?

Hope I did not cause a stir by the question but I think I have a couple of places to look around now. Thanks for the help.
