Hi All: Doing some trip planning. For those of you that have bareboated with the Moorings recently... Do you remember what areas and/or bays are off limits for their cats?

The Moorings provides a chart in the contract package that shows the redlined areas.

Mainly it's Anegada other then the main anchorage, Eustacia sound and Brewers bay.

May depend upon your resume.....Have not been redlined anywhere with TMM....Suggest you ask at your checkout.

In addition to these areas, my upcoming charter with BVIYC also redlines the North Sound entrance between Mosquito/Virgin Gorda, and the pass between Little Camanoe/Beef Island. Not sure if that will be the case with the Moorings but my guess is that these are commonly redlined areas.

The charter companies all pretty much use the same chart. In one charter with a non Moorings company they used the Moorings chart with the name still on it in the briefing. It's usually insurance not experience driven.

The standard chart provided to Moorings charters indicates a number of redlined areas-otherwise known as their "sales office." These are areas that common sense dictates that one should avoid primarily due to large zones of shallow reefs.

Just based off of my memory from last year the only redlined areas that I can think of where:

- White bay
- The channel between Mosquito Island and Virgin Gorda
- The channel between Little Camanoe and beef island (i.e. you had to pass through the little Camanoe and Great Camanoe channel

Don't recall anything else. Anagada wasn't redlined for us with limited sailing experience. But we didn't ask to go there per say. Planning on going there this trip however.

PS, when Are you going on your charter? We are sailing out of Moorings in Late June. This winter is going to be tough! DIF setting in fierce!

Everyone allows Anegada now but limited to the main anchorage.

Just thinking back to the chart briefing (which was very much under whelming if you do your research and stalk this forum!)
I am no longer sure if white bay was redlined.. I just know with my limited sailing experience, I was not anchoring or mooring there! We moored at Great Bay and took a dingy over to white bay, spent the afternoon with a pleasant Pain killer buzz!

I don't believe White Bay is relined by the Moorings. It is by some companies.

Once we're on the water, our itinerary will undoubtedly change for weather, et al. When I'm building our Plan A, I was just hoping to not include stops that we'd end up removing before we ever leave the dock.

A few more - anybody remember these being redlined by the Moorings?

-Brewer's Bay, Tortola
-Savannah Bay, VG
-Eustatia Sound area
-Cam Bay, Great Camanoe

According to the latest Moorings chart delivered for our charter at the end of this month, Brewers Bay is redlined. Savannah Bay is partially redlined, but open to the south and near shore. Eustatia Sound is redlined. Cam Bay is not redlined.

I'm curious about Eustatia sound being redlined - whenever I sail past in good light or when I looked down into it from the top of Prickly Pear it looked like the entrance from Neckar was wide and deep.

The Imray-Iolaire charts show a deep passage between Necker and the lands to the south (above VG), but the entire zone is redlined on the Moorings Chart. Their boat, their rules. Nothing prohibits one from sailing in that zone as long as they are willing to be responsible if something goes south.

Perhaps it is bad holding and potential damage through dragging. I hesitate to go in there because my 8.5 foot draft doesn't give me much wiggle room

Correct. Not Anegada or JVD WhiteBay. Hasn't been for years!
Any information otherwise is old or wrong.

I don't think it is redlined, but I would avoid it if the water is churned up at all - we were there once and we're much closer the reef there then we realized because the water had poor visibility. Only go in if it is clear.
